Well, for those of you who have read some of what I have endured, I appreciate all the words of encouragement along the way.
I have now officially been back into society for going on two months. Prior to that I was incarcerated in the Federal Penal system for what amounted to just about 4 years, I know it does not sound like a life sentence, but being a brittle type 1, some of the rigors obsolved in this battle at times seemed damn near impossible.…

Im recently out of the Hospital,
I ve have recently undergone surgery on my Jaw and been placed on IV antibiotics( which Ive been on for almost a month now,, as a result of a serious bacterial infection which they determined to be a Straph infection.. well as a result I was taking extra insulin due to the infection in my body.. I increased my long lasting insulin by 10 units in the morning, and 10 units at night which seemed to stabilized my sugars, keeping them in the 120-180…

I have been a t1 for going on 26 years, and the doctor has recently switched my insulin to humalog in conjunction with Nph, which does give me tighter control, but some days it has me on 6 or seven shots, when I used R and Nph it was a basic two shot a day.... Im currently receiving health care from the county office as my job does not give me adequate coverage... does any body know of , or have any suggestions to getting on pump therapy , with out the…

Berries (esp blueberries) don't bother me much, as long as I don't overdo it. Not sure, but I think raspberries, blackberries & blueberries have a lower GI than strawberries.
I don't bother with glycemic index & just go by carbs. GI of foods was determined using non-diabetics & I haven't found it of value for us Type 1s.
Yea, A1c is a 90 day average with lows/highs balancing each other, so you're right that it doesn't give a good picture. People can have the same A1c with very different control.

Pat said… - Magic I actually wrote you the other day after your last comment but the puter ate it up on me before it posted Grrrr hate when that happens. It is a slow road to recovery but each day is a little better as I am now in the strengthening stage at physical therapy and should be able to return to work next month. As for the flu its still reminding me its there but it slowly fading away very slowly. I caught the scores of the games on the news but I didn't watch any of them, but I can see that the Yanks aren't hurting as bad as it was lead to be prior to there wins, yes I'm sure the B fans are upset if not totally outraged at there team right now.
Its windy and cool today with a deep frost warning for tonight its suppose to get into the low 20's maybe I can send some down south to cool you down.

I'm a 26 year veteran and I DO know how frightening it is to have things happen (like unexplained, unanticipated and/or unannounced lows!) that never seemed to be at the forefront of the crazy ride it is having diabetes. I've been pumping for 8 years (or is it 9?) and while I'd never wish to go back to injections, life is still very challenging. I'm not sure if it's because of the duration of the D or if it's just me. I'm guessing it's the former because I'm certainly older and have acquired a heck of a lot of experience being a diabetic. I do not like my diabetes boat to be rocked. So anyway, I hear you. I'm sending good thoughts your way.
