Do you Wear Medical ID jewelry?

I wear one from "Med Alert". I feel naked when it is off and very uncomfortable. I remember in the hospital when I was in labour and they wanted me to take it off, I protested- they won, but it was...

ALCOHOL? HELP?

I still have a drink or two. What I was told- drink in moderation- have diet in the drink, no juice drinks. I use to black out alot before I knew I was diabetic, even after a few drinks. Stay away ...

Does anyone know if Chromium helps lower blood sugar levels? I heard that this lowers sugar levels in the body?

There's no formula. I love my EatSmart scale. Best money I've spent.
yesterday
after watching this video, I bought the Eatsmart Scale. It figures it all out for you, whether it is an apple, or part of a packaged food

absolutely! Get a gram scale and refer to a carb factor list to calculate the carbs of solid or liquid foods/drinks.

I'm also amazed by how attached I get to my pumps. Whenever I have switched from one to the next, retiring the little device is actually an emotional experience for me - like getting rid of a car you've had a lot of memories in. I'm on my 7th pump...

Melissa you made such good points. I know before my pump my life was conducted around my injections, now my insulin is conducted around my life. I go about my business just like everybody else I just bolus when I eat. And change my sites every 2-3...

We have had a lot of discussions on chromium. I encourage you to click on Forum and type chromium in the search bar for even more feedback. In general, our members here have had mixed results with chromium. It did nothing for me, personally.

Depends, I think. The following is what I figure: Chromium is necessary to use the insulin to process the glucose in your body. If you are not chromium deficient, I wouldn't think it would help. I never tried it, because I heard that it makes som...

hi everyone; I thought I would give you a little bit of my story.

I was diagnosed with Type 1 on Dec 5, 2003 at the age of 31. I was just married and thought I could handle this-my brother in law has it- boy then reality took a hold. Wow. It took some getting use to but I had a good supportive family and my in laws have experienced it so they were very supportive as well. My husband (Jeremy) went through all the training with me so I would have someone there.

Life went on- We decided to have children and got the O.K.'s from doctors- and then found out we couldn't have children. On June 18, 2006 Jer's borther Steven died ( and yes, it was a mulfunction of his pump) and that weekend we found out me were going to have a baby. Daniel was born of feb 15,07 and our second (unexpected child) Maaike was born on August 31,08.
Since Maaikes' birth I have had a hard time controlling my sugars- which is somewhat normal- but with Daniels birth it took only a few months.

Life has become so busy I started forgetting needles and testing. I work as a Recreation Therapist in rehab and long term care. In our rehab unit we see a majority of stroke and amputations, mostly related to poor management of diabetes. So... today I have my first meeting about the pump.

This has not been a decision that has been taken lightly and truthfully I am a little scared. However dealing with my own mortality as I walk on to the rehab unit is harder.

Scared

It is only a first meeting to discuss the possibility of a pump and I find myself crying because it is a hard decision. The ideas of constantly good sugars a better outcome and possible lifestyle vs. the fear of the unknown and the what if's??? Decisions!!!!

Willkommen Marsha, I just wanted to give you my short feedback to your choice of a specific pump model. In my opinion it is very important that the pump will allow to extract the data that is collected in the pump. Most users use their pump as their personal diary: carbs, glucose, shots, adjustments to basal rate and so forth. Some manufacturers have very closed systems or just allow to process the data with their tools. But as always one tool can not fit to all needs and wishes we could have. So a pump that will give you access to your data will allow more freedom of choice. The Minimed pumps (via their website or upload devices) or the Accucheck Combo (in combination with SmartPix) are offering this kind of openness. You can analyse your data with other software that is installed on your pc or you can even upload them to specific web sites like our free project Glucosurfer.org. These tools or services will give you the information you will need to make little changes to your configuration: basal rate, carb factors etc. So I would recommend to specifically ask if your pump software will have an export feature that can create CSV or XML files.
