I was staying at a beach house in New Jersey in the middel of the winter alone. the beach towns in New Jersey become pretty deserted in the winter so this in itself can be scary. After a long run I juiced up on insuline to enjoy a carb loaded hogg...

Hey Matthew, thanks for your comment. Sorry for the delayed reply, haven't been on here for a while. Yeah, my levels are not great, struggling a bit. Waiting to go on the pump at the minute. You on injections or pump? Hope you're well x

hey!!! I am not sure what you mean by take in or out? as in disconnect or not?...lil summary of me. ha. I am a very brittle diabetic. anything and everything affects my BS. You upset me, my bs rises, I am relaxed one day my bs drops. I about run over a squirrel in my car and my bs spikes! lol. I was doing about 10 shots a day and doing sports. I had to keep my bs about 200, sometimes 300 bc I would play full game and rarely came out and would plummit after. I ended up severing the neck of my femur, bed ridden for a yr, developed AVN, had my fibula removed and placed in my hip for blood flow, bed ridden again. Still on shots. Because I was so erratic when i was doing nothing i gave into the pump. It has its up and downs. I dont like being connected to things. I run around a lot and will run past a door and forget about the tubing bc i dont have it tucked in and itll get ripped out! (doesnt hurt) But is is so easy to disconnect. I swim a lot for a work out and disconnect it from the site for a couple hours. I used to teach swimming for 3 hrs and had it disconnected the whole time and was okay and kept my bs under 200 bc i was active. It is different but once you make it a part of you, you get used to it. My pump is my girlfriend! lol. her name is Athena...goddess of war (diabetes) and wisdom!

I spent many, many summers in Santa Cruz, Ca. Grew-up in San Jose, and my Dad lived in Scotts Valley.
You are lucky to live there!
Have a good one :)

heyhey! Buckeye state is great! Officially an alum now though. Yes, I drink, but carefully and not often. Basically if I do I am checking my bloodsugars hourly and all throughout the night. My diet is strict. I stay away from high fats and refined sugar. Call me crazy, but my favorite food is vegetables! ha. I don't really do it for diabetes, im just very health conscious. I work out every day for atleast an hour, which always is a nuisance with the diabetes. I can do the EXACT same thing everyday with insulin, exact carbs, around same readings, same workout, and one day after ill be about 130 and next day 330. Never makes sense. How are things with you? Hopefully everything is going great!!!!

Thanks Matthew. I am trying to be real about all of this, accept it and do what I gotta do kind of thing. I had a couple of melt downs, but I am not going to feel sorry for myself...that's just not my style. ;) I actually do have one question at the moment (and a bunch of others I don't have the presence of mind to think of right now!): Snacks in between meals, do you cover for them? I know you're not supposed to "stack" your insulin. What should I do in those situations? Do I just snack and then correct later at my next meal? Do I give myself one or two units (depending on the snack of course) right then? This is all very confusing to me, and I hope I don't sound dumb. Again, thanks! And I hope you can answer my question.
