OmniPod is a winner!

A few months ago I began the process of looking for new pump (thanks to Cozmo going under) and with much research as well as comments from here I decided to give OmniPod a try.

Without a doubt it was a stressful situation.

As of last week I am an official OmniPod user! I cannot say enough good things about it! The entire concept of not having a wire hanging on me was the selling point and has proven to be just incredible. No more forgetting to plug back in. (eventhough it was a rare instance t… Continue

What is your insulin to carb ratio? Mine is 1unit covers 6g. of carb. My Target is 120, and my basal is 1.7 12am -12 am. I don't exercise a lot, just a walk now and then. I am trying to figure out what I did today...last test was HIGH and test for Ketones! I'm thinking it was lunch Curried chicken with vegetables and very small amount of rice. Shared with boss...she ate the egg roll and the fortune cookie! I am trying to find a great CDE to help me with counting carbs...any suggestions on books to read?

I read your reply to Jim Huck...you use less than 100 units of insulin over 3 days? How? What do you eat? Drink? Give me some guiidance, I wear the pod for 2 1/2 days and use up the 200 units.

You are hysterical! I like that! I like your age determinent. Tee hee! Your plans with the pump are good. There is a secretary at the school I teach at that chose the Omnipod as her first pump and she seems to like it. I just don't think I would like the gizmo on my abdomen. I have enough meat there. The Pod would be even more to get in my way. Oh well. But keep Medtronic in mind. It is simple and easy. It has a sensor also which you can look into which I tried for a few months. It tells you when your sugars are going too low so you can take care of it. It just got in the way of my teaching. The kids would say, "Senorita V, you are buzzing!"

Good luck and let me know if you need my help. I won't be able to go to Boston since I have grad courses I am taking and one of them will be on that Thursday. Are you going?

Hi Maureen! I read your profile and we have so much in common! I am type one diagnosed in 1976 on the Medtronic pump. It is super! My A1C is 6.5 and this pump had a lot to do with it. Go to www.medtronic.com and see the info about it. I changed from Animas. I like this pump so much better and it is so easy to do the insertion! Write me if you would like to know more. I'd be more than happy to help you!!

Be well,
