Yes, as Kim said, suddenly improving your blood sugars can make normal levels feel low. This should fade in time-- if you are still feeling in a week or two, I would definitely call you doctor. Also, it would be good to keep measuring often until...

You may be feeling low if you're body is used to having slightly higher blood sugar levels. I know this because if my sugar is consistently low, I stop getting symptoms. I read that keeping your blood sugar slightly higher for a few days will tric...

I may be way off, here, but I would think your incredibly variable work schedule could be a factor that's wreaking havoc with your attempts at weight loss...and possibly even with your sugars. The human body really does function best when it has a...

Hi, Twixcookie, You shouldn't have to find a soy sauce "replacement". I, too, am a Celiac and La Choy soy sauce is gluten-free. I've actually been having a bit of the opposite problem than you have. I was GAINING weight uncontrollably prior to m...

As some of you know, I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease back in May. At that point, Doc said to concentrate on learning how to deal with the gluten-free diet and we'd "see what happens with the sugars". She hinted that she thought that my high-is...

What a cool idea. I'm a few minutes late, but... my latest blood sugar is 142.

Glucose meters have a -+ of 20% accuracy. That's a pretty large margin of error. So, a reasonaly accurate meter should be fairly close to your A1c, but the numbers won't be exactly the same.

I'll have to check all of the paperwork that came with my meter and see if it mentions anything about what califbration the results are. Thanks for the heads-up.

The past three generations of home glucometers have all read whole blood, but their output is calibrated their output to plasma equivalent. RTFM.

OK, I get it now. I suppose I've just blatantly proven that no one could ever accuse me of being a brilliant mathmetician, huh? Taking my 6.0% A1C result and finding the average on the chart, I get 135 mg/dl. I multiply that 135 by 0.93 and get 1...

No, that's not exactly what he meant. Your 121 was a 121. If you check your 30-60 day average on you meter, it should correlate roughly to your A1c that either the doctor runs, or a test you send off in the mail. If your average for 30 days is 120...

When you refer to home meters, I assume you're talking about the meters we use for daily (or more often) sugar checks and not the home A1C meters??? If so, HOLY CRAP! If I understand the concept correctly, that would mean that the 121 I got before...

Hi Maureen, I heard one member say, "Strive for Five". I like that. I thought my 5.8 was good, but the more I read, the more I realize that five or under should be the goal for all type twos. There is a loose relation to average daily glucose le...

HI Maureen,
Welcome to the TuDiabetes family.

Echoing the advice of many other members, it sounds as if you would do better getting a new doctor. Here is a resource you can use to help you find one:

Hi Maureen,

Welcome to tudiabetes. This place is awesome. It's a bit tricky to master all of the site features early on, but you'll find that it's well worth your time. I invite you to post some photos of your dogs and horses. Maybe, if you're not too shy, one of yourself.
