Palm Springs ½ Marathon Race Report 2/12/12

My Motivation

Two days post race, it’s starting to really sink in that I completed a major goal of finishing a ½ marathon. A year ago, I never would of thought this was something that I could accomplish. A year ago I would have told you that I hate running, that I’m not built to run further than a couple of miles, and that a 10k was probably the top distance that I could accomplish. The major shift in attitude came…

Shaver Lake Olympic Triathlon

Posted on September 22, 2011 at 9:28am 6 Comments

I competed in the Shaver Lake Olympic Triathlon on Sunday 9/18/11. All I really have to say about the event is that I finished. It was the most brutal event I've ever participated in. Needless to say I was prepared for the distance, but not for this particular course. It took place in Shaver, CA at 5,500 ft elevation in the middle of the Sierra's.

I woke up that morning my BG was hanging out around 120, I ate a piece of toast with peanut butter and a banana for breakfast and headed… Continue

Finished my Sprint Triathlon

This weekend I finished my sprint triathlon the Boulder 5430 Sprint Triathlon that I've been training for in the last 3 months. The distances were: swim: 1/2 mile, bike: 18 miles, run: 3.1miles

Fuel: I use a combination of protein bars, clifbar gels (specifically Mocha w/ caffeine because I can't stand the fruit flavors), the Powerbar jelly/gummy things, and gatorade.

Looking forward to hearing how the race goes! Good luck tomorrow! Stick to your gameplan for insulin and nutrition and your numbers should be great...and then you'll have nothing to worry about but finishing that run :) But I think you'll be golden! And don't forget to have fun!

I definitely had thoughts of walking several times (mostly right before and after I was dry heaving lol). But, yes, I did manage to make the best of it. Definitely always a learning experience w/ racing and the 'betes :)
When did you say your next race was going to be? Sometime in the fall here right? October maybe?
