My story

Back in July of 2008 I started getting migraines that was do to stress and feeling tired all the time, all I wanted to do was sleep. Started to miss a lot of work from migraines finally had to quite that job and was sleeping all day and all night. I was drinking about a case of regular soda pop in a day and not eating proper. With not eating proper I gained weight, was up to 300 pounds. Then in last couple of days in September of 2008 starting drinking water only but going to the bathroom every hour on the hour. Called to make an appointment with doctor and could not get into see him until the first of August.

The doctor set up some lab work for me for the next day, very early in the morning for me, as I am not a morning person. Had to fast for 12 hours then have some blood drawn and tested. When the lab tech was testing my blood sugar levels it was at 316, he had to test it again as he could not believe that it was that high. Then the lab tech said that because my blood sugar was so high he was not going to have me drink the stuff that makes your blood sugar go up. The next day I was to see my doctor and when I told him that the lab tech did not do all of the test that he had wanted done he was pissed,

The doctor told me the results of the all the test that was done and said that I had diabetes 2. He then set up an appointment with a Diabetic Clinic that was staffed with a diabetic nurse and nutritionist. The nutritionist set me up with High Carb diet, after that the diabetic nurse set goals for my blood sugar levels.

After one year with diabetes and being on my first diet ever, I have lost 105 pounds and my blood sugar has been as high as 136 and as low as 65. I general run a blood sugar level at 92 for the whole day.

Doctors vistit

It was time to go and see the doctor again. At least this time it was all good news. My a1c is at 5.4 which is down from three months ago. Doc said that everything else was good, took me of the metformin and only need to test once or twice a week now instead of two times a day. Yeah :) Do not have to see him again for another six months and if the LDL stays below 100, will get rid of taking another pill. Sticking to diet and exercise is the plan, am on a high card diet and it is working for me.

Hey Merlin - thanks - wow - what a story with how you handled your present roller coaster ride with diabetes. Keep it up - so you can stay away from the evil needle (it's not really that bad - but then I can say that having been a human pin cushion for so many years). BTW, which vampire meter (blood meter) do you prefer to use? I'll tell you which one I like if you tell me your answer .... drum roll of suspense here ....
