"I've found that a good, long bike ride can affect my basal rates for a few days. I'd recommend a Trek Madone 6.9, but that's only because its what I want but can't afford with 3 kids in daycare and a healthy mortgage. Without…"

"Not likely. I have a Garmin 700, the older style, and a Paradigm 522 with CGM. I can confirm that is not able to connect to the pump. I'd be so quick to switch if it were true though! As for comparing an Edge to a Forerunner, the Edge is a…"

"So far, out of 4 MM sensors used from a box (7 days each), all have been unable to accurately track my sugars. Ugh. $700 wasted. I wonder if it has anything to do with the box being left at my door out in the sun by UPS!?!?! Do you think MM will…"

"The big three in the US (AFAIK) are the Animas Ping, the Minimed Paradigms, and the Omnipod. Here are a couple quick links to compare the various infusion sets, so you can see how/where/if they disconnect. The Omnipod doesn't disconnect, so if…"

"1) Soreness/Swelling: You might actually bruise worse on a pump, but less frequently. Not sure, I've been lucky to have some non-fatty/non-muscle area in my abdomen to use. Your clinic may be able to help you test that out. I suspect this will…"

"+1 for all of that. Love the pump, love the CGM even more. Before the pump, I'd forget my insulin at home, take the wrong amounts, have to eat lunch at EXACLTY 12pm every day and dinner at EXACTLY 6pm. Now I eat when I want, what I want (When I…"

A1C on the pump

Posted on December 22, 2011 at 6:55am 2 Comments

A1C readings came back with a 6.3. Having a CGM, a 6.3 feels quite mediocre, although getting a 6.3 before would have felt like ultimate victory. Amazing how this little device changes your perspective so much.

Since getting the CGM, I haven't had an A1C over 7, although I've also been very active the whole time. I guess it is time to start buckling down and aiming for the elusive 5's. That means I have to be less reactive and even more proactive with sugar control. Some days I can…

I saw NJ but a lot of people move around. I'm planted in CT until I retire. Moving to SC when i retire where my daugther is. She was dx'd in 2006 at the age of 23. I'm more sad about that than my problem.

Hey Mikrtosh, I'm an old timer at this. If you have any questions ask away. Glad to see your A1C is great. Where are you from?

Thank you for the support, Mike. Just was notified of your generous donation! Let me know when you are riding, and will of course support you all the way. It's been a great last few days, as my shortfall has gone from $1000 to $650! Hope all is well. I'm just waiting for my new Revel.

Saw that you do the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes and was just wondering which ones you have done. I did 3 in Death Valley and one in Montana. Couldn't do it the past couple of years since I went back to school, but love to see that people are still riding.

Good work - always good to leave room for improvement! Congratulations on finishing. My post-swim transition time would probably include the time it took the rescuers to row me back to shore in the raft.
