Michelle replied to lizard's discussion 'When did you know?' in the group Oh! BABY!!!
"I have no idea if it actually was a sign of pregnancy but I'm currently 8.5 months pregnant and right before I took the positive test, I had an really out of the ordinary high. One of those highs where you eat the same thing every morning, same…"

Michelle replied to Melissa M.'s discussion 'How do you bolus for oatmeal?' in the group Animas Insulin Pump Users
"Oatmeal has always been tricky for me but I've found I have luck with bolusing, waiting 15-20 minutes and then eating the oatmeal (this also works well with yogurt). This way you give the insulin a chance to start working before it gets hit…"

Ana replied to Michelle's discussion 'Interviewing a Doula' in the group Oh! BABY!!!

E. Louise replied to Michelle's discussion 'Interviewing a Doula' in the group Oh! BABY!!!

lizzistardust replied to Michelle's discussion 'Interviewing a Doula' in the group Oh! BABY!!!
"Tell her that. Say that you have a plan regarding your diabetes, and you're concerned about people overwhelming you about it during delivery. Doulas try very hard to reduce stress, so I think that would eliminate any chance of her trying to…"

Michelle replied to Michelle's discussion 'Interviewing a Doula' in the group Oh! BABY!!!
"Luckily I am acquaintances with the woman we are interviewing so hopefully that will help with avoiding the scary stuff you mentioned. I think that's my biggest fear is having a third party (doula) try to step in and manage my diabetes when…"

lizzistardust replied to Michelle's discussion 'Interviewing a Doula' in the group Oh! BABY!!!
"I think most doulas will pretty much just learn from you what your unique needs are due to the T1D. She probably knows the very basics of how D affects pregnancy/birth, like that babies are often larger and OBs tend to really push interventions like…"

Interviewing a Doula

Hi All,I'm 18 weeks along with my first baby and my on the recommendations of friends, we have decided to look into having a doula. I have some basic questions written up to ask her tomorrow but I'm curious if anyone has recommendations on how to talk to her about my T1D. Or just general questions as to how doula's deal with high risk pregnancies. Any advice on the topic would be great.Thank youSee More

"I don't suspend but rather just set my temporary basal to zero for a specified amount of time. This way you get the same effect and don't have to deal with the suspend alarm."

Welcome to the family! On this forum you will learn so much. Most of all you will learn that you are not alone. Everyone here is supportive and will provide answers to your questions. Search the site for answers. Read the discussions and blogs for information. There are videos to help you understand diabetes and its treatment. Most of all there is family to talk to and even to vent to, if needed. Welcome home.
