First dose of Lantus tonight! Scared to death!

Sorry I haven't responded sooner. All went well the first night I took my first dose. I have been waking up with BG's around 115. Had a scary day where I peaked at 582. The Dr. told me to immediate...

First dose of Lantus tonight! Scared to death!

I think he took me off Metformin already because I've been taking it for a year and hadn't really helped at all. The lowest I've seen my BG in a year is about 229. He is starting me on 15 units of ...

Sorry I haven't responded sooner. All went well the first night I took my first dose. I have been waking up with BG's around 115. Had a scary day where I peaked at 582. The Dr. told me to immediately take 15 units of the Novolog. Bottomed out at 4...

I started on Lantus in September. For me it works slow and steady. I don't think you would get a sudden drop from it. I hope this helps.

I rotate injections between stomach, upper butt & thighs. I did upper arms once--ouch! Other areas don't hurt at all. Have your doctor give you an Rx for the thinest, shortest needles & syringes with 1/2 unit markings. My first order of syringes ...

I agree with Mikey...the tummy is a good spot, just remember to rotate. I think the finger sticks actually hurt worse than insulin injections.

Hi, Michelle, I am a bit confused because a TSH of 1.3 is completely normal. You might want to check that out. Perhaps it was O.13? At your age, you do indeed have LADA. True Type 1 is something that happens in childhood. LADA stands for Latent Au...

My goodness, it took him a year to decide that the metformin wasn't helping?? I knew it wasn't helping me when I took it within a few weeks. I saw changes in my fasting and between meal numbers, but it did nothing for my post meal highs. They stay...

Hey, Michelle. You got some great advice here. Everything is going to be fine. Being nervous is normal. But everything is going to be fine. Why not post a message telling us what your bg is at 3:00 a.m. and another in the morning when you get up...

In fact, Michelle, it does. However, I started doing both Lantus (long-acting) and Humalog (rapid-acting) as my dm treatment. *Most* of the time, when my bgs drop at night, it's due to "operator error" -- I've taken too much Humalog and not eaten ...

I usually use the abdomen. I can hit the area in my tricep if Im feeling industriuos lol but I generally stick with my stomach rotating spots there per week ish lol

Let us know how you did. Everyone gave you great advice, so hope you're not nervous. Many people take two doses of basal (Lantus or Levemir). I take one right before bed & another first thing in the morning. I have dawn phenonmenon (high fasting ...

Hi and welcome, Michelle.
I see you are just diagnosed as type 1.
Don't worry to much about the shots... in the beginning it's a bit weird, but you will see... you get so used to it, it becomes automatic. Keeping your blood sugars (people around here shorten it as "BS") within the lines is the most challenging job...
It's all about experience... doctors have nice theories, but a good advice... listen also to your body, because every person is wired differently.
If you have any questions, drop it here on TU...
Good luck,
Nico
