on the pump I also set a dual wave for about 4 to 6 hours... on shots I would split the insulin in half and and take it 2.5 hours later.. if not I always went low and then way high several hours later.

CGMS Journey - Chapter 4 - DENIAL Letter #2

The letter read...
"All information was reviewed. We have determined the continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS) is non-covered and will not be eligible for benefits. While the CGMS may be FDA approved, it is not a covered benefit under your contract with XXX insurance company. Purchase or rental of continuous glucose monitoring devises are related supplies is considered deluxe, and therefore patient responsibility and deluxe items are non-covered by your contract.

CFMS Journey - Chapter 3 - DENIAL Letter

Well it finally arrived. I was a waiting in anticipation. I knew the answer would probably not be in my favor, but a girl can dream.

It arrived on Friday 7/3 as I was preparing my house for visitors. It arrived in a nice crisp white Insurance company envelope - Opening it up as if I am waiting to be accepted to an affluent college.

I read...
"All information was reviewed. We have determined the new insulin pump is not medically necessary as the current pump is functioning and the continuous gl… Continue

CFMS Journey - Chapter 3

Well we are a holding pattern, just waiting for some communication with the insurance company to arrive. Will they approve usage of a CGMS or will they deny. Well last monday I received my first communication stating they needed additional information. The are requesting diagnosis codes and procedures codes.

I called the doctors office on Monday and they called me back today "Friday" The were able to provide me with the diagnosis code 250.01 = type 1 diabetes "duh" and they were not sure what t… Continue

CGMS Journey - Trying to move past Chapter 2

Ok last week I reported that the doc agreed after several weeks to send sign and fax my form for predetermination to the insurance company. Well.... Friday I got a call from the nurse stating based on previous conversations they thought I had already been denied and that is why it wasn't progressing and in that time they no longer had my original documentation and would I be willing to come down and provide them new documentation so they could sign and fax.

I wanted to cry... I was so mad...Wel… Continue

CGMS Journey - Onto Chapter 3

Last week I left another message with my doctors office requesting they sign all the paper work I had provided with them and again, I got a message saying no, due to several issues all which made no sense to me anyway. So Next step...

I called the offices Diabetes Education Director, which luckily I am on the board and she has helped with my diabetes care for the last 18 years. I told her of my situation and she said "wow, this just doesn't sound right." she said "Let me go ask a few questions… Continue

Hi michelle. It's interesting because I was up last night thinking about that maybe I was drawn to photography in some ways because of my diabetes. My biggest fear has always been about my sight being affected. When I was first diagnosed I was almost blind for about 2 weeks and it was beyond terrifying. It was about a year after my diagnosis that photography became so important to me. I am not the most disciplined person and in some ways I think it was my body, my subconscious, adding that extra " you'd better take care of yourself" element. Not only would I lose my sight but I'd lose my passion.

You know, I really would like to get back on my pump but the boluses and the basals confuse me worse than the injections. I honestly don't know how to start over with that. I would really enjoy that kind of freedom, cuz face it, with two little girls who can follow a schedule. =) Always something different about your day. I have an appointment on the 14th, maybe I'll have to bring my pump and see what she suggests. I appreciate all your helpful insight. Truly.
I think that's a good idea too. Stick near home for a while. =) I think you'll be surprised how attached your little girl will get to you and you might be surprised at her wanting to stick around. Spit fire or not. I was a spit fire and had a hard time being away from my mom. So who know. She was my best friend and how do you leave home without that. =)
I really enjoy this sight actually. I've had a lot of help, more than I expected. It's been a really good support for me. You included. =) I hope you have a wonderful day and thanks again.

Hey there,
Yeah Lantus is once a day. I take Novolog for my short lasting, but don't usually take it unless I've eaten something or I'm high. The problem is, it's almost like the Lantus isn't covering me during the night. I'm wondering if I'm not taking enough. My insulin ratio got kind of messed up with my last pregnancy. It's like starting all over. I have no idea why they changed, but the ratio I was using before I got pregnant is different. So now I'm back to square one. It's frustrating.
lol I think it's okay that your overprotective. It's better than the alternative. =) Means your a good mom. =) Is your son staying close to home or going away? I think that would be hard for a mom. I hope my girls, when that day comes, stay somewhat close. =)
You know what I just thought of. I bet my pump is a dinosaur by now. =) I was just looking at some of these pumps and mine is not that fancy. =) Hmmm, if only I had a couple thousand lying around. lol It took me forever to pay off my first one. lol
Well, I hope you are doing well. Keep in touch.
