Hi Michael, thanks for your comment I'm glad to see you here, too. I hope things are going well for you. I read your book some while ago and I think we corresponded when it first came out. I'm still working on insulin issues here in Canada. We are awaiting a report from Heath Canada's Expert Panel on Insulin -- it is way overdue! I was a member of the panel and have been working with some of the people in the biologics directorate to increase awareness about the need for animal insulin. It's an uphill slog! People who have problems with biosynthetic or analogue insulins are unaware of the availability of a safer alternative. Not to mention their doctors who I sometimes think prefer blissful ignorance.

Thanks for your response and Happy Easter! So far no chocolates for me yet; in fact I've still got chocolate and dates left over from last Christmas.

I've lived in Ely for eleven years now. What is the surname of Jennifer? Is she a diabetic or someone you know here? As well as translating, I also work two days a week doing admin tasks at a complimentary health centre in Ely and have got to know, or at least recognise, so many local people simply because they come to the centre - by that token a Jennifer may possibly have passed through. I haven't been inside Ely Cathedral for quite some years. The entrance fee is quite steep, except on Sundays when it's free (or was the last time I went). Still, the Catherdral precincts, Cherry Hill Park and the riverside are all very nice places to visit.

Your book on life with diabetes is somewhat of a rarity. I've found only a handful of books of this type, including Andie Dominick's Needles, Lisa Roney's Sweet Invisible Body , James S. Hirsch's "Cheating Destiny" and Gritt Ott's Mein süßes Leben and Vom Hoch und Tief des süßen Lebens (the former currently being translated into English, so I believe).

An English teacher, I see. Secondary school I presume? I'm trying to squeeze my marking into my long weekend : (
I think once I become a pro with my carb counting and insulin, I'll be trying the pump.

If I'm not completely mistaken, I think you must be the Michael Twist who wrote "Highs & Lows". A writer as well as a teacher.
