I think normal fasting is in the 60-80 range and 2 hours after usually in the 120 range. Even after a pig out meal a non diabetic won't go over 140. If I eat 1 slice of bread I'll go to 200

Here is another way to consider the normal blood glucose during an OGTT: fasting

Your numbers are at least very close to what non-diabetics may see. Here, check out this page from Blood Sugar 101, which reports results of studies on how non-diabetics respond to carb loading, in terms of BG, insulin response, etc. From that, yo...

Thanks Duncan, I really can't take a lot of credit for it, I'm just thankful that my pancreas is functioning so well. I have put it through a lot of hell with bingeing in my life. I'm working on that though.

Normal is a difficult thing to determine but estimates I've seen are that at 2 hours most normal people will be between 70 and 100 and fasting between 60 and 90. It's possible for non diabetics to spike as high as 140 but I believe the study that ...

I don't think those are normal non-diabetic numbers. I think they're good numbers for a diabetic. I'm trying to figure out what normoglycemic (non-diabetic) numbers are. But thanks for the info. :)

Here is a nice webpage explaining it... According to them it should be less than 140. Fasting - normal less than 100. Normal A1C below 6.0. So you're on the dot....

giggle, giggle, for now it works, until he starts getting antzi again. every little while he whines that he wants to be free to live his life. let me see, he's not living here and he has girlfriends and can do whatever he wants. the only thing is he still has responsibilities that he doesn't want to have. i can't say i feel real sorry for him. he made a pledge, a promise and he should have thought of that long and hard before he said, i do. leaving a wife because she is overweight and has diabetes isn't exactly the manly thing to do. as far as i'm concerned he should man up and behave himself. but, what can i say? my opinion doesn't seem to be his. so as doris day sang. what will be, will be. i won't allow my life to go down in the dumps because he has to have a second childhood. lol !!! my daughter says it's very strange having a father who is acting younger then her 7 year old son. so i choose to laugh then to cry. there is always a silver lining to every sad story. mine is i'm not being controled anymore. how cool is that?

hi misty,
thanks for the encouraging words. while i won't give that dunderheaded husband of mine a divorce because of financial and insurance reasons, i can say that him ever coming back to live here is not going to happen. if he couldn't change in the 34 years we've been married i highly doubt he will now. unfortunately between the two of us we don't make enough for me to make it on my own, then add in the insurance i need and won't be able to get because i fall into the area between making enough and being able to get assistance, there is no way to just give him what he wants. i'm not going to cut off my nose to spite my face. if you know what i mean. luckily for me i don't see him very often and i am generally a happy person so i have gotten past the point where i was totally devastated when he went out and found someone else so that he could justify dumping me and not have to explain to his family and mine as well as our friends that he left because of my weight and diabetes. in all things he has to look good. so for him telling everyone that he just didn't love me anymore was a legitimate reason for leaving. the devote catholic saying it's ok to get a divorce. i'm not saying it doesn't still hurt when i think about it. and i guess a part of me will always love him (not that he deserves it) but i know that i can't go back to the kind of abusive life we had. i'm happier and trying to get my health back on course. if he was still here that wouldn't be happening. he can't help being an idiot and having to be in control 24/7. so let him go try it on someone else. which is good for me cause it allows me to have a good giggle every time i hear that it didn't work on another new girlfriend. yes i am bad that way, but he deserves everything he gets.
thanks for being a friend and giving me an ear. mostly though i do pretty good, except when he comes around and still tries to do the control thing on me. then i just tell him that he doesn't have the right to think he can tell me what to do anymore. he leaves when he sees he isn't getting to me and i'm smiling, which he hates. it drives him absolutely nuts.

In time it becomes second nature. when you do it now and keep good records eventually yo will only ned to spot check a good program is abbot's copilot. It is a free download and has a carb counter built in. Makes it simple to check trends. I reommend it

Hi Misty,

Yes, I do play the banjo. (and the ukulele, the guitar, and any other stringed instrument I can get my hands on). The recordings on my TuDiabetes page are all mine. Do you play the banjo too?

About Me

I'm a computer geek by day, but at night I am many things. I knit and spin my own yarn from wool. I'm an avid photographer. I play trumpet in a community orchestra. I read voraciously. My husband and I raise about 80% of our own food on a small farm. We also host a weekly podcast called Geek.Farm.Life. I'm usually listening to other podcasts on my iPod when I'm not reading.

I'm pretty new to diabetes, having only been diagnosed on 8/15/08. I have been diagnosed as "insulin resistant" for a few years though. I have only just started monitoring my glucose and I have a lot to learn.

Meals I Can Have -- Breakfast

I know this might change as my pancreatic function changes. But I'm going to start keeping track of meals that don't seem to bother my BG level. For the first, my tried-and-true breakfast:

1.5c Cheerios
1 tsp (maybe less) of honey drizzled on
1/4 cup goat milk (I don't drink from the bowl)
1/2 cup cottage cheese
2 cups coffee
Resulting 2-hour BG: 95

My Weekend Breakfast:
2 eggs, over-easy
1 slice whole-wheat toast
1/2 cup salsa
1 slice American cheese
2 cups coffee
Resulting 2-hour BG: 85

Ignoring It

I'm so annoyed with myself. I think that I dove into the diabetes thing too quickly and got information overload, and now I have lost my motivation. I have hardly been testing. I have been just eating whatever. I haven't been keeping track of ANYTHING.

I am nearly finished with Gretchen's book (it's supposed to take a year and I read most of it in a week -- probably part of the problem). I got 3/4 through Dr. Bernstein's book and put it aside because I don't think it is necessary for me to rest… Continue

Dietitian Appointment

Well yesterday I had my first post-diagnosis appointment with a dietitian. She wants me to do what I consider a high-carb diet, with no less than 130g of carbs per day, and preferrably 160g. She wants me to get at least 45g of carbs at each meal (3-4 servings of carbs per meal). She also wants me to be on an 1800kcal diet, for weight loss.

I don't really buy that my BG levels will stay down doing this diet, but I will try it. For the first week I am going to concentrate on the carb servings, an… Continue

Fertility Stuff

Well Saturday I had my follicle scan, and I had two viable follicles that were ALMOST mature. One was 14.5mm and the other was 12.5mm. So they had me wait until this morning to take the trigger shot, which would cause the eggs to release within 24-36 hours. So now it is just a waiting (and having sex) game. I will know something in two weeks!

One of the things about the trigger shot is that it contains the same chemical that makes pregnancy tests positive. So if I take a test tomorrow morning i… Continue
