Hi Laura Just so you know, the set with the small steel needle that I mentioned, the contact and detach, is the Animas version of MM Sure T. The other set that I mentioned is called a Comfort and is the same as MM's silhouette or sils for short.

Hi Heather I am an Animas Ping wearer and agree with what has already been said by gw. The Ping does not have CGM built in but it does work with another system. The only other factor that I would add is the size of the reservoir. The Ping is 2 ml...

In addition to weighing the food, you may want to get a nutritional scale as that will give you a good carb count. There are times that I have noticed the carb count on packages is not the same as on the nutritional scale. The amount of protein on...

Hi Laura. Welcome to the growing Animas family. I started out with the Inset II and Inset 30 and had a lot of problems with both. No so much with them coming out but rather that the kinked while in or did not go in at all. I would not know this u...

Shalom I have been to the TuDiabetes site for several months and tonight is the first time I saw your group. I am a chef and I cook for a lot of Jewish events. So I look forward to sharing things that are particular to our culture and in general....

Thanks Mitchell, I will try a few others. I also plan to try the Contact Detach because I have one. I sent the others back because they were wanting me on the 9mm and those were 6mm. I'm just using Insets right now. They did not want me to use Inset30 and so the sample that came with my pump I gave to the CDE to use for demos. Wish I'd kept it to try. They said the Inset 30 were for muscular or athletic people or kid, blah blah. I guess they thought I was too fat. I'm real fair and have thin sensitive type skin and my veins are fairly close to the surface. It doesn't take much for me to blow out a vein. The other night, I removed the first of the 9mm Insets they had sent me and it bled for 40 min. The 6mm didn't bleed that long. I think I will get samples of several like you said and figure out what I like for myself. I looked at your information and see you are a chef. That is so cool !! Where do you live and work? Do you like it? Give me a secret recipe!! I love to cook in the winter but in this TX heat, I hate to cook or eat. My daughters call it my summer fast but this heat does something to my appetite. I'm a great cook but living alone, you get out of practice.

Mitchell, I'm trying to be as accurate as possible. I ordered the Calorie King book until I can go into my software and make some changes in the remote food data base. It just didn't have a lot of stuff but the book is great. Shows everything. After my pump start, it took about 6 hrs before I began to realize just how many carbs I eat and that most everything has carbs in it. I called myself watching the carbs before but it wasn't like I do with the pump due to having to be much more accurate now. I love the pump though. Also, being on a different insulin and a lot less of it, I dropped 10 lbs the first 2 weeks. Love that too. Thanks for keeping track of me and always being there to help. I forgot, what infusion sets do you use? I've had my share of problems with them.

Mitchell, yep, I'm pumping since 4:49pm and so far, so good. Only thing is I feel like everything I put into my mouth is a carb. I feel like Animas I going to say I eat a lot of carbs but it's because I'm not used to counting them or at least not this well. Makes me self concious of carbs now. I used the Inset. They also sent some of the Contact Detach ones but they wanted me to start with this one. Thanks for thinking of me. I appreciate the support a lot.

Hi Mitchell,
No, I didn't just ignore your last reply. My computer crashed and I just got up and running last night. In the meantime, I chose the Ping! I'm so excited as they plan to do my startup on Tues. Thanks for all the advise and I followed much of it. As for your question of who CCS is......they are a distributor like Liberty Medical who handles diabetes supplies and pumps, etc. They are doing my pump stuff. In fact, I'm on disability and have Medicare but no supplement so they qualified me for their financial assistance and they are picking up the remaining 20% of the pump and all the supplies. It is all free to me and I feel very blessed. I was concerned because I live on that disability check. Now for the infusion sets. I can choose any of them but since I'm totally ignorant at this point, they sent me two kinds to start with. Insets, and Contact Detach. The pump also had one Inset 30 in the box. They also sent the IV Prep because I have a tape allergy. They sent enough cartridges to change reserrvoir every 2 days. I've been playing with the pump and just love it and can't wait. I'm so hoping some of this damage to my body will turn around. The neuropathy is moving from my feet up my legs and my eyes and kidneys are not doing well. I've never been able to maintain control for very long so I'm truly blessed that I qualifed for the pump although I had to wait until I no longer made insulin to do it. I guess you have to get sick enough to die before Medicare will come thru - HA! I appreciate your help and am still interested in any info you want to share. Especially about inserts and stuff. I'll let you know how it goes on Tuesday.

Hey Mitchell. It sounds like you had some really rough spots with your D's. But it sounds like you are doing great now! That's wonderful that you brought your A1C down and are doing well on the pump! I know the pump really changed my life for the better too! It's been 3 yrs now and only wish I had been brave enough to start it sooner because I was such a chicken before that to try something new and not wanting to be attached to something like most people do before trying it. I hope you continue to keep doing well and your numbers keep getting better and better!

Mitchell, when I told you about the insulin combination, was a quote from a Rep trying to sell me a pump. They will tell you anything to try to explain things away. You made me feel like I can have the Animas even though I may have to add insulin. Medtronic tried to make me think it was a bad thing to add insulin because plastic breaks it down so the insulin that is left in a used reservoir is less potent and I will be adding new insulin to that according to them. I responded with saying that shoud do nothing but improve the insulin in the reservoir and they tried some lame argument but it didn't fly with this broken down insulin thing. Anyway, since you say it isn't that much of a problem to add the insulin, I will not worry about it. Also, CCS is the one who said it isn't recommended and the woman I work with there is so hateful and ornry that I don't listen to her anyway. She is pushing for the MM even thought they can send me either brand. Everyone was telling me I had to have the bigger reservoir and you are my saving grace if I decide on the Animas. I love the remote and the screen and a couple of other things including some of their reports seem easier to read and interpret. Thanks for the help and I'm happy to hear you love your Ping.
