Summer is the Season of Lows

I love summer. I love the heat and the ability to wear cute little skirts and sundresses. But I HATE the lows that always come with the hot weather. At first, it's kind of nice to watch my insulin requirements lessen in the warmer weather. But then, the lows start and my basal rates go nuts and I feel like I'm living in a permanent fog. Something D-Related that Made me Happy!

Since going back on the pump, I've been trying really hard to keep my BGs tighter and actually in range. Before, anything under 250 was good as far as I was concerned. There are lots of reasons for this, the primary one being that I am scared to death of going low, especially at work or while alone. So, I let myself "run high," which did crap to my A1C, but generally left me feeling pretty ok. But my endo really wants me to get serious about my control and I agree that I need to do better. We definitely need help! I've been highlighting The Diabetic Athlete's Handbook, but you can tell we don't have this figured out. This is our first challenge since diagnosis. It's funny about an egg & cheese sandwich: I was looking for something that would be long-lasting! Like yesterday, Sam was on the softball field from 12-6 in the heat. We did ok with that. Field hockey is worrying me. The suggestion to lower Lantus before is probably really good, plus some kind of light meal or drink. Didn't realize abt the mac & cheese & ice cream not being great to pull her out of it. At that point, we were trying anything & you could tell she felt awful.

I am already on Humalog. I just hate that I have to be on Humalog, humalin, AND Lantus. Like, why 3 insulins. Why not just cut the humalin out? Humalin sucks!!!
