Even though I have had diabetes for awhile, I love meeting other people with diabetes. It's nice to know that someone else can understand what you are talking about. I have supportive family & friends, but it's not the same. So I am glad to get this chance to meet everyone here!
I just received my new pump and continuous glucose sensor. I am hoping this will help me fine tune things. It's been going well so far - I am very active and it's nice to just look at my pump and see how I'm doing. I pressed the buttons so much checking out my graphs that I used up a battery in a week!

Melissa - I was reading a post of yours at Jackie's homepage - about closing your eyes when you put in the Sil's - LOL - I do the same thing - tho' I'm getting better at semi-watching - holding my breath - as it goes into the skin. The first few times when I was first learning to put infusion sets in - I felt like I was going to pass out - and you'd think after 40+ years I'd not be like this - but the Sil inserter needle is like looking at the Big Bad Wolf - except - if children are reading this - it's not that bad - it's just me - an adult being silly .

Hey Mylissa,
Thanks so much for the comment! My blood tests were border line and my endoscopy came out neg, but I do feel better eating gluten free ... so it's sort of mysterious... I'm going to get a cat scan which may tell more. But it's helpful to know that there others with confusing test results, and I guess if eating gluten free helps that's the most impt thing to know...!

Thanks for the welcome comment. I am new to this. Grace was diagnosed 6/24/07, she was 6 at the time. Tell me what it is like being older with Type 1, what will Grace have to watch for? What are some of your experiences? Again, thanks so much for the support and encouragment.

Thanks for the comment!
I'm liking the silhouettes more that I'm getting over the size of that needle. I just keep telling myself that most of it is not actually going under the skin. :-)

Hey Mylissa! Thanks for your comment. And no, I haven't heard anything back yet from my insurance carrier re: CGM coverage - other than their denials, that is. :) But I'm still working towards coverage, and I REFUSE to give up!!!

When we first thought I had diabetes I went and had an OGTT done and my fasting was 101. Seriously. MODY is supposedly very genetic. I think that for a person to have MODY they have say a "defective" gene. I am on insulin, although for the first 2 years with diabetes I was not.I thought this article about MODY was pretty good, if you would like to read and know more about it :) http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/14047009.php

I have daily pity parties but then just keep on going, we have no choice. I have used the CGM on and off for the last 6 months and it did fix some of my basal issues, but I am not a huge fan of daily usage, sometimes those long hours of highs staring you in the face is not always useful. Hope you find that it helps more than harms you.
