I was told that whenever my son has ketones, we correct with a syringe. I have a ketone scale that is different from his reg. correction. I am not sure why, but I never correct with the pump, only with a syringe. Good Luck

Well, my son has pumped with Mini Med for 4 years now. When I had problems with his pump a year ago - the battery wasn't working, it would shut off etc... i had a new pump within 24 hours. I have always been pleased with their service - whether it...

Well, I am sorry that you are allergic to insulin - that seems very unique and unfortunate. My son waited 6 months for the pump. I know of other young people who are told they can get the pump once their numbers are better, but honestly, although ...

hello nancy and thanks for the coment. To start from the beginnig, when i went to get my Drivers Permit, the DMV held off giving me my permit until my Endo cleared me and then the head honchos at the DMV regional offices also gave me the OK. At the time my A1C was much lower around 8.3. Both ended up clearing me and i got my permit.

To be honest, i probably should, but i dont check my BG because i just got my license. haha, but i should and probably will.

About your son, just teach him to drive well, i am pretty sure you did that with your 2 children. When he gets around the driving age just make sure the Endo tells him everything he needsto do and carry and im sure hell be just fine

Hi Nancy, thanks for your message. Good for you to stand up for your son's health and demand answers! I was curious, do you know exactly what irritates your son that you talk with us? It is so comforting for us parents to talk with other parents or even other people affected by it to live better and know that we are not alone. And as discovered, get great information from others! Talk to you soon,
Gina

Hi Nancy, sorry to hear about your son feeling bad again. For us, the nights are much better these last few weeks, the aches happen more during the day. Knock on wood! (Every time I say something like that the opposite happens the next day or so). The feelings you are describing are really the same for my son. Sometimes he cries, it is that painful. He sits in front of the toilet bowl thinking he's going to throw up, sometimes he's completely white during that time also (and his bg is fine). You must feel powerless like I do. Luckily, he has not been missing school for that though, when he does cry at school it usually is a sign that he is low.

The thing is that he had, a year and a half ago, 2 infections almost one on top of the other (ear infection and we call it "gastro" here, throwing up and all the family had it) and a month or so after, he started to eat less and less, crying, going to the bathroom always thinking he was going to throw up when he started to eat, even when he did not. After 3 weeks of almost not eating (he was drinking some specialized D meal replacement chocolate shake to have at least a little bit of nutrients each day), we went to the hospital (before we went to see his doctor, some other doctor...), they thought it was emotional, they thought that it was constipation (had no problems with that, sorry to be descriptive ;) ), they took an XRay and thought it was gas, but then they did an ultrasound and the doctor said that he understood why he was in pain so much. We could see bubble-like shapes on the screen and he said that his "ganglions" around the navel area (that was were it was hurting, still is the same area since December also) were really swollen and he asked me if he had more than one infection a month previous to that and I said yes and he said that it's a natural reaction of the body when 2 infections happen almost simultaneously and that it was as painful (for some people) as appendicitis.

The ultrasound was the last test they did (last year), we knew what it was at least, but there was nothing to do but wait, it would fade away by itself.

Now, that he's feeling somewhat the same symptoms, this summer when we went, they did not go to the ultrasound saying that what he had last year does not happen every year. The thing is, it probably is not that again because it lasts several weeks after 2 infections (or more) but then goes away, and since December it's like more some weeks, less other weeks. I was wondering if it's because he has given up complaining. But I see him when we eat, or other times, holding his stomach with his hand, sometimes even rubbing it but he does not say a thing, but I see it.

Hope we find what affect our sons!!! Cross our fingers for you for Monday! Take care,

Hi Nancy, I am glad that my blog post about my son's tummy worries has helped you also!!! It helped me too and will see the endo mid-November, so cannot wait to ask her about the suggestions I was made here. I am glad I joined also and that I wrote this blog. One woman suggested (as a comment on my page and not on the blog) to check for gastroparesis also (which I have no clue of). Hope this helps also. Good luck Monday and give us some news on how it went!
