Pamela, 80-100 mg/dl is an ideal, target blood sugar, as you know. The only reason you are getting hypo symptoms is because your body has (tragically!) become accustomed to high BGs. You do NOT want to "correct" a good blood sugar level. Rather, ...

Weird feelings from B.S drop!

I am starting to get the hang of a diabetic diet and I seem to be doing O.K. However I noticed when I cut back too much on carbs my sugar drops....not far but between 80 to 90. I feel really weird, kinda shaky sort of spacy but I have no appetite at all. Only another diabetic would understand what I mean. I have been losing weight and so far have lost 21 Lbs! I need some advice as to what to do when the weirdness feeling happens if it is not near one of my mealtimes. I have really tried to cut o… Continue

Why do I feel weird with a normal BS reading?

I have been getting a lot of help here with controlling my newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetes. I have been controlling it pretty well with diet changes and Metformin BID. I had a after lunch reading of 96 and I felt horrible! I was shaky, nauseated and my head felt like it was stuffed with cotton. Why would I have these types of symptoms if my readings are in the ideal range? My fasting BSs have been between 105 and 110. I try to eat no more than 45 carbs at each meal and I make sure that I am full… Continue

Now what do I do?

My BS control has been very stable since I started taking Metformin BID. My last HgbA1c was 6.3 before I started the Metformin. I have been having pretty good success so far, however, today I had a reading after lunch of 158! I can't figure out why? I had only 42 grams of carbs(a turkey club sandwich) after which I felt weird, kinda dizzy and nauseated! I had only 22 carbs at breakfast so I am mystified as to what caused this high reading. I am not sick or stressed out so what should I do after… Continue

Where do I begin?

As a newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic, I am still trying to learn how to adjust my diet. I have attended diabetes education classes and I also have several diabetic cookbooks. I am about to go into "information overload"!!!! I seem to be doing a good job of keeping my blood sugar readings within range. I take Metformin BID. I have lost 8 pounds in 5 weeks. The hardest part is trying to exercise because I fractured my knee and ankle in Dec. and I am still in Rehab. I see that there are a lot of pe… Continue
