I heard this on CNN last week and I have been thinking about it ever since. I just can't see how this would be helpful. Apparently this would cut down on trips to the doctor? I can't help but feel…Continue

I'm completely confused. In November, my brother left the hospital emergency room and he died shortly after in his bed. As they could find no other cause they are saying it must have been diabetes. I…Continue

Does exercise cure all ills? How much exercise is enough? More than an hour a day is seemingly not enough. It seems to me that if one has an active lifestyle and devotes at least one hour a day…Continue

I joined TuDiabetes at the end of May while desperately seeking help for both myself and my younger brother. So many of you responded with wonderful advice and many of you became my friends. I just keep thinking...if only I'd joined sooner.
This week my brother, my lifelong friend, was found dead in his bed. I have been so scared that this would happen. He is 57 and has Type 2 Diabetes.
We won't know what happened until we get the coroner's report in 9 months. We now know that…

Trudy said… I think some people are more sensitive to the poison plants than others. I can (and do) get covered with poison ivy, including eyes swollen closed, while at the same time my husband gets a little patch that he hardly notices. When I was a teenager, I went to a beach party where some fool burned poison oak in the campfire, the smoke covering us all. I was bedridden with it, my entire body covered, and have had episodes ever since, though none as bad as that first. Thank goodness steroids work, but they do play havoc with blood sugar. Oh well, Cheers!
Trudy said… Good morning, Joanne, thanks for asking. The poison ivy isn't too bad, just on my arms. I've had cases that required a lot of steroids, but I think I just got this second hand from petting the dogs. I have learned to never bury my face in their fur this time of year!
Marie B said… Peetie, you got me thinking strongly about Sandy. She was just a pure love. when I met Manny in 2009, about 6 months after she died, I will never ever forget the look in his eyes when I brought up her name. I decided to become more involved in TuD to honor her memory. I thought if I could do 1% of what she did here to help others, well, you know. it didn't matter to her if you were type 1, type 2, whatever, if you needed help, she was there. funny, I never knew what type she was, I had to look at her profile to see (LADA). here's our tribute page to her

Sandy B was one of the greatest. miss her so much.
Trudy said… Thanks, Joanne! Dunno about the wise comments. We're approaching hot/dry weather, not counting thunderstorms, leading up to 94 degrees. Expect we'll do a bit of grilling and settle down for a nice long summer weekend. The birds and butterflies are fun to watch; we have a pair of Rosebreasted Grosbeaks nesting and an active pair of hummers among others. The dogs are overheated; our Goldens are not summer dogs.
NutThins are a good alternative to chips; they have more carbs than I'd like, but really are a good cracker. They come in various varieties -- pecan, hazelnut, almond. I find them in some supermarkets, often in the gluten-free section, and in health food stores. In this hot weather, I tend toward my Daura gluten-free beer. So -- have a good weekend; Cheers!

Trudy said… Hi Joanne. I'm not familiar with Baco Noir -- going to have to try it. In the meantime, mostly Chard with Nut-Thins, a little added guacamole. Cheers!
Trudy said… Chard, NutThins w/cream cheese. 87 degrees today, which I think ia a record. We hung some petunia baskets today for the hungry bees and butterflies. Happy Summer (for right now, anyway) and Cheers!

Trudy said… Hi Joanne. I put this link on a discussion yesterday, but nobody commented. Still I think you might be interested in it: http://med.stanford.edu/ism/2012/march/snyder.html. This was originally discussed on 4/26, www.diabetesmine.com.
We're having a cold snap right now. Hope you have a good weekend -- Cheers!
