To cut a long story short, in 2006 when I was 16, I was diagnosed with type 1 by way of what I was told, was the worst case of DKA ever survived by a patient at Royal Childrens Hospital. In all…Continue

A flaw in logic.

OK, so I'm going to be starting pumping in a few months, but there seems to me to be a flaw in the logic of pumping. Obviously there is some solution that I can not see, so I was wondering if any of…Continue

Living Alone with Diabetes

Individuals with diabetes who live alone face the usual complex self-management challenges that all PWDs face. Living alone, however, brings additional challenges. Only a few are noted here. Some "aloners" (new term?) face personal and medical safety issues with hypo unawareness, acute illnesses (who makes the chicken soup for flu?), and injuries, to name a few. Some may run higher than desired BGs during sleep to avoid a hypo reaction. There are unique challenges with planning, prepping, and…See More

Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes,
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Moments so D.
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?

In injections, in test strips, in site changes
In cups of juice
In highs, in lows, in HBa1c.

In five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure
A year with D?

So the other day I was flicking through Pumping Insulin (4th edition) by John Walsh and Ruth Roberts, which, as many of us know, is one of the bibles of insulin pump therapy. There is however, one section that I can’t help but giggle when I read, not because the information is inaccurate or unhelpful, but just because of the poor choice of abbreviation.

Everybody seems to be desperate for violists.. which means that my auditions are a lot less competitive! :)

I really wish I wasn't working on anything right now! my auditions are all this week for orchestras/quartets and other things. I really hate scales.. lol.

It's the coolest moment when you find your new best friend/viola, and you know it right away!
What are you working on right now? I'm gearing up for an audition in two weeks and I'm playing Concerto in B minor by Handel.

I think we're twins! I did violin for seven.. blah.. and viola for three so far! I'm trialing 16 inch violas right now (but I'm currently in love with one) so mine doesn't have a name. My last one was Antonio- and my bow is Bownita, :)

Isadoré is such a pretty name! I'm still in awe that theres another type 1 viola!

Ahh! I thought I was the only one, too!

Viola is my favorite.. (contrary to what cellists and violinists believe). Having diabetes AND playing viola makes a person really cool. How long have you played?
