Susi, It gets crazier than ever in my area, Kentucky. Here I was told by the local and state regulators there are no rules about "diabetic sharps" generated in a home situation. Both the county and state folks went on to say it was most likely a v...

Hi Ali, In most areas of the western world, the disposal of sharps is legislated and it's illegal to throw them in the trash. I don't know what the legislation is for your area, but you may want to check with your local health authority... and wha...

Hi everyone! I just replace the cap and throw it in my regular trashcan. I never have used a sharps container in my life. I just recap everything and pitch. Never had any complaints.

You can also bemd the needle part over and place it under the plastic where it will hold then close up the plastic. That is if you don't want to pull the needle. At least that way there is less chance of anyone getting stuck.

Thanks everyone, I guess I will have to pull the needle out and recycle the case. I was just hoping there was a disposal case with a big enough hole to fit the whole thing....I just hate the multiple steps even though they really aren't that time ...

I've used a needle clipper and cut the needle off, and tossed the rest into the recycle. I keep the snipper right by my recycle bin. Takes 2 secs. to do it and then it is a toss.

Trial and Error

Well my first day on the pump started off well, then I was fighting lows before and after dinner. I think the CDE has programed my pump wrong. Before going on the pump my carb ratio was 1:15 and my ISF was 1:2 with a lot of lows. Now my carb factor is 1:10 and my ISF is 1:3 and my basal rate is 0.70 all day.

I know it is trial and error, I guess I was just hoping (you know dreaming) that everything would be smooth for me. Hopefully in a few weeks I will be cruisin and my ratios will be rectifie… Continue

WHOO HOO!!

After 17 years of resistance I decided to take the plunge and go on the pump. I was having a lot of lows and wanted to stabilize my BG's. So I thought the pump could maybe help me with that and maybe give me a more "normal" life.

So after many, many months of research and many months of government waiting lists and applications I am finally on the pump today.

I chose the Animas 2020 and was scheduled for an 8am appointment today with my CDE. The Animas rep was suppose to be there because I was… Continue

You're FU**ING kidding me?!!!?!!!

This morning I decided I would sleep in a little bit and take the toll highway to work. After getting ready I went downstairs to go through the routine. After struggling with high blood sugars in the morning for the last month I was happy to have a 6.6 (118). I grabbed my Humulin N pen and dialed 26 units and proceeded to "shoot up". When done I looked down at the pen and a big black cloud came over me, my heart sank and the panic began. I just gave myself 26 units of HUMALOG!!!!!!!!!!! What the… Continue

Whining about being approved??

Well my insurance approved the insulin pump and 346.14 a month for supplies. I'm excited, but a little disappointed. They haven't approved full coverage of the pump, I would still have to pay 600 out of pocket.

Maybe I'm acting like a spoiled brat but I don't want to pay the 600 out of pocket. I have 100% coverage on all my other meds, I just don't want to spend the money. I am luckier than most, I have full coverage and the insurance company will cover 91% of the pump....also the government of… Continue

Hi Preta!I have been on the pump since February2008 and my basal rates are still a little off during the night.I find I am more sensitive in the evening hours.I get frustrated when my numbers are high or too low.At first the insets I was using were the iinsets that went in on a 45* angle. The angle made it difficult to get the cannula in.As I became more experienced I used the leftover ones that I had with no problem.I guess I had unreal expectations at first. My endo is not very supportive of the pump.It makes it difficult but I have an excellent Diabetes Educator. When I am feeling bad she fills my head with positive comments.I also have an Animas 2020.My insurance company has extended my coverage of supplies since I called them to explain the wait time for the ADP.At first the lady argued with me then she called back about 20 minutes later with the good news.I have coverage til March.I purchased my pump before September 1 2007 so I cant regain the money for it.At least an upgrade will be covered.
