Red_T1 replied to Sagwabetes's discussion 'How much do you bolus for coffee?'
"I think part of it is DP for me, but not all. I work afternoons, so its normal for me to have some caffeine around 7p, and I find I still have to bolus for it. Guess YMMV."

Red_T1 replied to Sagwabetes's discussion 'How much do you bolus for coffee?'
"If I'm going to sit down and just drink my coffee/tea, I bolus at my first sip. I haven't had a problem getting the insulin to match the caffeine peak. However, if I'm also correcting a high at the same time, I don't bolus for…"

"I am a huge tea drinker, and yea, it behaves the same way as coffee for me. Boo! Maybe your residual second-phase insulin response can take care of the caffeine bump? Reading all these comments.. I assumed most T1's got smacked by coffee, but I…"

Red_T1 replied to Sagwabetes's discussion 'How much do you bolus for coffee?'
"I'm so jealous of all the non-bolus-ers! During the day, I either take a unit for a cup (black), or do an extended bolus or increased basal rate (130%) for it if I'm just sipping. However, in the morning... I take two units for a cup. I…"

Hi Red, I liked your recent comment on Shannons blog about starting a pump. You reassured me about my instinct to stay closely involved in jacobs's D. he is asking for more independence which i am wiling to give him, he is 14. but i still always want to see whats going on, there have been a few times where he has tested and forgot to bolus. alot of folks here say their parents just kind of handed things off to them as teens or younger! and report falling off the wagon. as you suggested kids want independence but they also innately want support and guidance from their parents. thanks for making me feel like am doing the right thing. i do not hover and let him make most of his choices. i am the silent force in the back ground! best wishes! amy
