Hi Rich :) Thanks for the add. I'm in upstate NY...wayyyyy upstate...about an hour south of Syracuse. Developed an interest in forensic accounting so I recently went back to school so I can get my CFA.
You're out on the Island, yes? Out in the Jericho/Huntington vicinity? I lived in Greenport for a while back in the early 2000's...wayyyy out on the east end.

One key thing, either she has the gene or not. Make sure you monitor the frequency of urination and amount liquid that she drinks. Watch out for fever because the diabetes type 1 could be triggered by infection that can cause the fever.

Here's the recipe. Tons less carbs than wheat flour. I have a lot of recipes. Send me a PM with your email address & I'll send you some.

Pancakes--makes 6 4" pancakes, 1 carb each

1 cup almond flour
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1/4 cup water (I use seltzer to make them puffier)
2 TBS virgin coconut oil, melted, or use butter
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract

Mix together. Cook like any pancake in an well oiled frying pan. They don't bubble on the top like flour pancakes. A bit heavier than regular pancakes, but good.

Hi Rich,
I recommend checking out this resource page:
http://www.tudiabetes.org/notes/Other_Types_of_Diabetes
as well as the video titled What is LADA:
http://www.tudiabetes.org/video/what-is-lada-or-type-15
for details about it.

You would needed to be tested for GAD antibodies and C-Peptide levels to confirm if you are indeed LADA.

P.S. I am 38, but thanks for thinking I am 29 like you! Feels good!! :D

Hi Rich, Yes she did get very sick in the end, but there were vague signs leading up to that day. On her standard 9 month check up at the pediatrician, it showed that she didn't grow at all from the previous visit - strange for a baby, but the dr. was not concerned (?!?). Even before that she was always hungry after her bottle and never wanted to be held - just little odd things that made me take note at the time, but never really knew what it was. Then, other times she was fine and acted normally...until the end of her 9th month when she suddenly smelled strongly of ketones (I learned later what that was) and was peeing like crazy - over filling a diaper every 2 hours. These new symptoms literally started on a Friday and by Monday she was hospitalized in PICU for a week. I believe her pancreas was slowly shutting down (well the insulin making part) for months before until it finally just stopped. Then three months later my husband (who was 35) developed the same exact symptoms (ketones, extreme weight loss and peeing) and I insisted on testing him with her equipment. His blood sugar was over 400 and obviously he had diabetes too (later diagnosed as adult onset type 1). Very strange, right? Have you noticed any symptoms in your daughter?
