Diabetes Gear

Ok, what do you use to carry your stuff? I've got a Maratac Range Bag that carries books, notebooks, pens/pencils, a flashlight and a couple other things, along with a Dia-Pak Deluxe, and an At A Glance Page a Day calendar for a log. However, after almost 2 years, the Dia-Pak is, well, getting old, and a little blood stained (imagine that). I've been looking around at different bags (used this for a little while…See More

Where do you go when you no longer give a hoot?

Hoot is not the word I want to use, but I don't want to use language that might be seen as offensive.

Diagnosed at age 46 as a Type 1. Was faithful and in good control for quite a while till the weight came back (I had lost 40 pounds prior to diagnosis).

Now, it seems that it doesn't matter what I do, I'm doing a great impression of the universe - constantly expanding.

If I don't eat, I get low, and I hate getting low because then I over react and over correct,… Continue

Testing Question

Posted on May 12, 2010 at 8:46am 3 Comments

What's the average here for daily finger-stick testing? I just came off my honeymoon period, and from what I've been reading (books and web), a lot of folks are doing pre and post meal testing, as well as an early morning, and pre-bedtime - total of 8 (if you're eating 3 meals).

How often do you test - I'm going to my MD to ask for 8 times daily - now that I'm out of the honeymoon period, I think this will give me a better spread on what my…

Well, here lately, the BG has been higher on a regular basis, and the amount of insulin (Humalog) I've been using has been going up as well. Used to be that if the sliding scale called for six units, I could get by with three, and still might drop pretty quickly. Now, if it calls for six, I inject six, and even then, I don't get below 121 any time soon.

It's only been a year - well, a year on the 16th of this month, and it's already driving me crazy trying to figure out how and where… Continue
