My Story

I sort of guessed at the date that I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I was pre-diabetic before that, and one day I went in to my provider after some fasting bloodwork and said, "Well, my dear, you have officially earned a diagnosis of diabetes." My grandmother was diabetic, her brother and sister were, and my mother is diabetic, and now I am, so it runs in the family. I kind of wasn't surprised. I have always been overweight, and as an adult, I made sure to have fasting blood sugar done once a year, just to check. After a substantially large weight gain over the past couple of years due to depression (I'm bipolar), diabetes finally caught up with me.

My bg readings are in the 100s, and I know they need work, but I am working on it. I watch what I eat and exercise at Curves three times a week.

I have the beginnings of diabetic neuropathy and have lost some of the sensation in my toes and balls of my feet, but my podiatrist says if I can get the diabetes under control and continue with my diet and exercise regime, it's possible I could see some improvement.
