I've been Type 1 diabetic for 16 years and so far I haven't encountered any issues with it (touch wood)! I was on Novomix 30 flexpen (human insulin) twice a day, but wanted more flexibility to my regime, so I spoke to my diabetes team about changing it, and they were happy to support it! So now I'm waiting to start the new insulin (Lantus & Novorapid), and I'm looking forward to tailoring my insulin requirements to the food I eat. Exciting times indeed!

About me; I'm a classically trained flautist and would like to play in a professional orchestra one day. In my spare time I like to exercise, so I hit the gym as often as I can, and enjoy cooking and baking my own bread. It's really therapeutic! I like travelling when I can and trying different food when I'm abroad. I'm fascinated by pharmacology and read up on the subject as often as I can. This year I've started to grow my own vegetables, but in particular, chilli plants. I have loads and loads of chilli plants! I find gardening fun and it's a good way of getting some exercise, I thoroughly recommend it!

Hiaaa.
Thanks for the comment. Me too, actually I was looking for info on the affect of exercise with blood sugars etc, I stumbled upon all this by chance. Yeah everything sort of went upside down when I was diagnosed, I actually wanted to be a physio, and now I have this urge to travel and take pics of everything - strange. I've only just really got into it but I think I'm into documentary and architecture. Thank-You I think I'm finally realising it's going to take a little time.. Well your comment made me smile. If theres anything I can do don't hesitate to drop a comment =)

I've had Type 1 diabetes for 13 years. I had all the classic(and quite obvious) symtoms before diagnosis, I'd lost alot of weight, was very tired, lost interest in school work etc and drank nearly a bottle of Robinson's orange per day. I literally couldn't get enough liquid! lol Anyways, I kinda diagnosed myself before going to the doctor's what with reading up about it and everything, and it was clear-cut, I had diabetes. I was put on Human mixtard, this later changed to Novomix 30 which I'm still on. I inquired about a pump, I thought why not? I didn't qualify because I didn't meet the NICE guidelines http://www.nice.org.uk/TA057, but to be honest I already knew this, I just wanted more flexibility and freedom when it came to airports/train stations/restaurants etc where retreating to a toilet can become annoying. I now take Metformin because I have insulin resistance but nothing a good excercise regime won't sort out, which I'm doing. Last year I joined a gym, lost 2 stone and my sensitivity went through the roof, really good. It's something I've come to realize, that excercise and diet are an integral part of good control. I'm healthy apart from diabetes and I've had excellent HbA1c for 13 years, but hey, it's diabetes, there's always room for improvement!
