I got leg cramps in the morning when I began to experience symptoms of T1, which I was confirmed having after an initial misdiagnosis of T2. Have you checked your ketones? When you pancreas isn't producing enough insulin, your body cannot burn glucose for energy, and begins to digest fat, then muscle. Have you lost weight? Ketones are a byproduct of fat burning and if you have high ketones, you might want to see an endo if you are not now. Test strips for ketones are available at most pharmacies.
Your "low carb diet and minimal insulin approach" is the same as mine, but I add in supplements. Thanks for starting the DrB group. I'm a believer in orthomolecular medicine and regret that in Canada NDs are not covered and MDs are not taught naturopathic approaches to disease. We have a disease care system, not a health care system, but at least MDs are covered by taxes. I go to the doctor very minimally for 30 years. My GP is a personal friend, and my endo I've known for 24 years of my 29 as a diabetic, but I find my own answers and thank God for the Internet.
