Hey all! My name is Samantha, a lot of people call me Sami. I was diagnosed with Juvenile/Type 1 Diabetes when I was 1 or 2 years old, not really sure exactly. I have been diabetic over 20 years now. My sister was diagnosed at the same time. We are 17 months apart. Over the last 10 years I've had three different minimed models and am finally going to start the Continous Glucose Monitor that has been in the unopened box for over 4 months now.

I recently recieved my Masters degree from the University of Illinois in Law and am working at the Attorney General's Office.

I am in the process of testing for an Islet Cell Transplant at the University of Illinois Chicago. If accepted I would be their first African-American! Cross your fingers and/or say a prayer PLEASE!

Also working really hard to lose 30 pounds and lower my A1c into the 7s. Everyday is a struggle.

Any questions, just ask.

I can also, more frequently be reached via email at gaddy.samantha@gmail.com

Correction bolus - help please!!

Posted on December 1, 2009 at 11:31am 5 Comments

So I'm figuring out that my correction bolus is always 1 unit too much but I can't wrap my head around exactly how to change this on my pump. It is currently set so that 1 unit lowers my bg 48mg/dcl, but I need to change that to... what?... so that I am getting one unit less.

Anyone know?

Today I am attempting to start Bob Greene's (Oprah diet guru) plan in his new book "The Best Life Guide to managing Diabetes and pre-diabetes. I am interested in seeing if this works. The book/website take a three phase approach to weightloss, increased energy, and a decrease in A1c levels.

Phase one, titled "Taking Control of Your Blood Sugar", encourages you to move more, eat a specific range of calories for your height and weight and weightloss goals, drink 6 glasses of water a… Continue
