Having some issues with Dawn Phenomenon - any advice?

Thanks Tim! I think I will play with dosage this week as well as overnight readings.

Having some issues with Dawn Phenomenon - any advice?

Ah, interesting. I have always taken more Lantus daytime than nighttime. I am currently taking 16 during the day and 6 at night. Maybe I should reverse, or change it to 10 and 10?

Now that I am getting tighter control, I am really starting to notice Dawn Phenomenon. For example, I woke up low this morning - 50. (This was a result of after-effects of strenuous exercise from t...

You're welcome, I hope everything works out! I should mention that I woke up that early on different nights, not all the same night (one night at 2:00am, the next night at 3:00am, etc). The whole process of adjusting took about 1-1.5 weeks, but no...

Its hard to know without seeing what your glucose is overnight, but this sounds more like your lantus dose may be off more than dawn phenom. The first thing I would do (and what I did when I had a similar problem) is to wake up in the middle of th...

That sounds like this morning may have been a counterregulatory response more than DP. You may find that with less carbs and tighter control you may reduce your lantus and that proportionally you need more in the evening to reduce the darn phenome...

How it's going so far...

Hello Everyone!

I am new here, and new to blogging in general. This website is so inspiring and such a wealth of information, so I thought I'd start a thread of my own to keep me accountable for my progress.

I came here after doing some nutritional research and deciding to try a grain-free, low-carb diet based on the principles of The Primal Blueprint - www.marksdailyapple.com

Not being a fanatic, or someone who believes everything I read, and also… Continue

Hey Sarah, glad you made your way here, things are going great with me. Getting a masters degree in holistic nutrition. And I'm working full time in a school, and getting a masters degree in social studies education. I'm a busy man these days.

All I can say about fat in foods is that if they are quality fats, they're great for you. I'm not the kind of Bernstein guy who says it's okay to eat industrial steak all the time, but ample portions of undercooked grass fed steak is a great thing. I eat lots of nuts and seeds and moderate portions of meat, plenty of eggs and stuff like that.. I add fat to my meals to make me feel full and give me stable energy for several hours. My diet is 60% fat calorically speaking, but I balance that with lots of raw alkalizing vegetables (home made vinegar free lacto fermented pickles, fresh squeezed vegetable juice, vegetable snacks, etc).

Also, it sounds like you want to regain full control of your blood sugar. If you want to do that, don't slowly pull the band aid off- rip it off quickly - get rid of everything you used to do and go on a Bernstein style program. The 6/12/12 program might not be right for you, but it definitely works. Considering eating no more than 15 carbs at a time for a while, and completely avoid anything higher on the glycemic index than carrots or beets. If you can get on a program like this for a month and get your a1c down into the 5% range, life after that seems easy.

If eating like this doesn't pull of 10 pounds after several months (or if eating like this doesn't give you energy and leave you feeling good) you might have something else going on - thyroid, toxicity, fungus, bacteria, slow oxidizing metabolism, etc. Complicated.

Feel free to shoot me more questions. Email is actually better, goodfriendsam( at- )gmail.com
