food and work

Hello all, I have been trying to eat as I should and exercise 5 to 6 times a week for a little over 60 days now. I have my low carb meals and two snacks planned out almost every week day. I have not lost a single pound but I have lost 1 inch around my too thick waist and my too skinny legs are gaining some muscle. As a vegetarian and a type 1 D, I feel isolated at work. My team mates always ops for fast food if I suggest going out to lunch if I do not want what I bagged for lunch that day.…See More

I know a lot of you can relate to this blog entry. We try to start working out regularly but then sometime around the holiday season we get the yearly bug that goes around. We get knocked out of our routine and begin to see working out as drudgery rather than a great way to feel better about ourselves and relieve stress. Then we become busy with all the holiday stuff. Last December my mother alos had a serious surgery which she is thankfully slowly recovering from. She is not diabetic so it is…See More

I was diagnosed with diabetes before my fifth birthday. I was a skinny kid who fell asleep on the floor all the time in class. Being an undiagnosed diabetic made me tired all the time. During the 70s, hospitals did not know how to deal with a toddler with this diagnosis. They would give me stuff to read. How many toddlers do you know who can read? I did not know I was sick and the hospital was a horrible experience. I thought the doctors were mean. Thirty some odd years later, I still have type 1. I am on the pump and I include exercise and cooking/eating what I make usu. from scratch everyday. Most restaurants just don't know how to cook great vegan diabetic friendly food. If it doesn't taste great, why eat it unless I have a low sugar. Exercise is a must for diabetes' emotional and physical aspects. I walk my dogs 1.3 miles a everyday. I do yoga, pilates, hiking and whatever else my friends are up for. Looking forward to learning more about the people in this worldwide community of diabetics. : )

Cure For Diabetes Books? What Gives?

Posted on November 29, 2011 at 7:30pm 5 Comments

How do authors get away with naming books, "Dr. Neal Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes: The Scientifically Proven System for Reversing Diabetes without Drugs " by Dr. Neal Bernard or "There Is a Cure for Diabetes: The Tree of Life 21+ Day Program" by Dr. Cousens? If diet would make our bodies capable of producing the right amount of insulin, type 1s would have been doing this a long time ago. I keep running into people who say I can cure my type 1 because of these books with there…

I made 2 good recipes this week:mushroom risotto w/ sun dried tomatoes on Tues. and cauliflower w/ spicy vinegarette on Wed. Tonight I made warm spinache salad but the recipe had too much balsamic vinegar and was an icht don't think so. Tomorrow maybe spring rolls w/ peanut sauce.

Thanks for getting back to me, Sarah. I've left a comment for Rebecca, so if she's not OK with using it then we won't. If we do use the photo, though, it will appear in our December issue. Just send me an e-mail (tneithercott@diabetes.org) with your mailing address and I can ship you out a copy of the issue when it prints.

Thanks! Tracey

Sarah, I'm a writer with Diabetes Forecast and in an upcoming issue we're going to be featuring Terry Keelan. A photo he submitted includes you. If we decide to use that photo, is it OK with you that your photo appear in a print and possibly online edition of the magazine?

Thanks! Tracey Neithercott
