Days when diabetes brings me to tears like today because I of all day effort for nearly no result

Feeling frustrated. Pump site no absorption last night. Awoke at 476. Tried to bring sugars down w/ combo of site change & injections. 1st vile of insulin no longer good. Injection #2 brought sugar down. Site #2 not working. I have been trying for 11 hrs now. Sugar did drop to 276 by around 3 pm. I thought I would be on my way. But the drop was only caused by the injection. I did not know the site was not working. Useless boluses while waiting to feel better but instead getting worse. D…See More

I was diagnosed with diabetes before my fifth birthday. I was a skinny kid who fell asleep on the floor all the time in class. Being an undiagnosed diabetic made me tired all the time. During the 70s, hospitals did not know how to deal with a toddler with this diagnosis. They would give me stuff to read. How many toddlers do you know who can read? I did not know I was sick and the hospital was a horrible experience. I thought the doctors were mean. Thirty some odd years later, I still have type 1. I am on the pump and I include exercise and cooking/eating what I make usu. from scratch everyday. Most restaurants just don't know how to cook great vegan diabetic friendly food. If it doesn't taste great, why eat it unless I have a low sugar. Exercise is a must for diabetes' emotional and physical aspects. I walk my dogs 1.3 miles a everyday. I do yoga, pilates, hiking and whatever else my friends are up for. Looking forward to learning more about the people in this worldwide community of diabetics. : )

Preparing for Tday.

Posted on November 19, 2012 at 4:39pm 0 Comments

Can cross these items off my to do list:

1. Pick up humulog at Costco pharmacy during one of the most crowded days of the year when all I need are prescriptions and dog treats.

2. Excercise today.

3. Give dog the weekly bath he needs because of his pollen allergies.

4. Bought all the ingredients of the 2 dishes I am going to make for T-day and bought my vegan fieldroast roast stuffed with vegan stuffing.

All I need to do next is:

1. Pack the clothes, diabetic…

trouble dolls

Posted on July 22, 2012 at 3:56pm 2 Comments

Trouble dolls are little dolls that come in a little wood box. I think they are from South America but not exaclty sure. I had a box my mother gave me when I was small. I asked every single doll every single night to take my diabetes away. Now over 3 decades later it has not happened yet. Where is that cure I was told when I was 5 would be around in about 5 years?

diet & exercise

Posted on June 11, 2012 at 5:28pm 3 Comments

I had half a donut and a cookie today. I skipped my protein exchange for breakfast so my calories would not go overboard with the cookie I knew I was going to have. A co-worker brought in donuts and a chocolate donut just seemed to be just so tasty that my resolve broke and I cut one in half and ate half. I wonder if I have very much will power with sweets at all. I just have not been buying much at home so I will stay away from them. I have still been woring out regularly. I took a pic of…

food and work

Posted on May 19, 2012 at 10:38pm 4 Comments

Hello all,

I have been trying to eat as I should and exercise 5 to 6 times a week for a little over 60 days now. I have my low carb meals and two snacks planned out almost every week day. I have not lost a single pound but I have lost 1 inch around my too thick waist and my too skinny legs are gaining some muscle.

As a vegetarian and a type 1 D, I feel isolated at work. My team mates always ops for fast food if I suggest going out to lunch if I do not want what I bagged for lunch…

excited about fitting a regular fitness routine into my life again/

Posted on April 1, 2012 at 8:00am 2 Comments

I know a lot of you can relate to this blog entry. We try to start working out regularly but then sometime around the holiday season we get the yearly bug that goes around. We get knocked out of our routine and begin to see working out as drudgery rather than a great way to feel better about ourselves and relieve stress. Then we become busy with all the holiday stuff. Last December my mother alos had a serious surgery which she is thankfully slowly recovering from. She is not diabetic so it…

Saw your comment on the Group, Veganbetics "have been vegan for 1.75 years." as of On December 28, 2010 (talking about Neil Bernard's plan, your prior (then your tweeking) tiredness and concern that you needed more fats in your diet than he recommended). Are you still into Veganism

Thanks for getting back to me, Sarah. I've left a comment for Rebecca, so if she's not OK with using it then we won't. If we do use the photo, though, it will appear in our December issue. Just send me an e-mail ( with your mailing address and I can ship you out a copy of the issue when it prints.

Thanks! Tracey

Sarah, I'm a writer with Diabetes Forecast and in an upcoming issue we're going to be featuring Terry Keelan. A photo he submitted includes you. If we decide to use that photo, is it OK with you that your photo appear in a print and possibly online edition of the magazine?
