Ok, wow! I'm so excited for you and nervous for me! I am going soon for my first set of bloodwork. I wonder if I'll have to lose weight - they haven't said anything about it but I am afraid that I will need to. I also need to get my a1c down a lit...

I would like for the new pump to suggest how many carbs I should eat when I have low blood sugar. It would know IOB, current blood sugar and somehow be able to calculate an accurate carb number for me to ingest. Since I am brain dead when LBS anyw...

Playing in the Garden!

This weekend has been full of projects and fun. I have fixed up some things on my house, am planning to buy the trim for my living room, and ACTUALLY did my dishes!!

I have new trees that are growing up in pots. I planted a long row of hostas in my back yard. They are lovely. I plan on having strawberries and blueberries this year! hopefully. I have cleaned out the house and sold some old stuff.

Next weekend I plan on a FULL BLOWN spring cleaning. I am motivated! It is great to be able to open… Continue

The Particulars.... Are Complicated.

There is quite a bit more to getting time off of work for a Medical Miracle like an Islet Cell Transplant OR even a Pancreas Transplant...

Told the bosses today. They talked to HR. HR talked to me. It's complicated.

I have an appointment tomorrow after work to go over the details with our HR lady. She will work out whatever details so it "seems" to go smoothly... I am guessing that it will be financially a burden for ME. Which I can live with as long as the JOB doesn't just find a reason to fi… Continue

Chicago Islet Transplant Meeting

In typical style all plans have been changed and updated. I had barely gotten all my local doctor appointments made when the plans had to change. I got a call Thursday from the transplant program coordinator and she wanted to know if I could come up on Friday to meet with the Doctor and the coordination team for my "interview". It would move me up 6 weeks in the process and get the final approval's out of the way!!

I said "YES" (after discussing it with my boss...)

With no real time to plan or… Continue

Islets Anyone?

This is a great day for my diabetes care. I finally made the call to the University of Illinois, Chicago to request inclusion in their islet cell transplant Research Study.

I passed the first phone interview.

Next step is to complete all the doctor appointments that need to be done before my first appointment up in Chicago.

OBGYN, Mammogram, Eye Doctor, Dentist

I was due up for all of these annual/biannual checkups anyway and was being lazy about seeing them since I HATE going to the doctor.… Continue

Yeah it's on BBC. That's a good one about dirt in our bld, pity that was all that was wrong eh ! It was absolutely freesing here today, so all I could do was look out wistfully. Apparently Friday is to be fine, I get fed up if I can't get out. I was in our local garden centre, everything is so expensive, cuttings from now on.

That is so funny, Rodney on the tv programme is really, really tall too. I was out today planting bare root rambling roses, I love the cottage garden type of garden.

Hey SheyFey! In response to your comment on my blog post, the difference for me boils down to a complete lifestyle change. Pre-pump I was just doing very poorly. I ate out all the time, didn't exercise, and hardly even counted carbs, but rather bolused with a "this should cover it" attitude. I was taking near 100 units a day. I decided to change before I got the pump actually, but the pump really helped me mainly because I hated seeing myself punch in a ridiculously high number of carbs into the bolus wizard. Also CGM has helped me cut down my carbs as well because when I eat fewer carbs per meal (under 60), I don't spike so much. Anywho, now I'd say I eat around 150 carbs or under, and might do something like 20 breakfast, 15 morning snack, 30 lunch, 15 afternoon snack, 45 dinner and maybe another snack before bed. This has decreased my daily insulin total from 100 to anywhere between 40 and 50. So that's what's made it so much easier to drop those pounds---I was just really bad beforehand! :) Of course, the holidays are already a whole other story. Oops.

Received the MiniMed 722 Insulin pump and the One Touch Ultra Link last Wednesday. I had been using a loaner pump until I got all the insurance worked out. I love the new pump and meter. Hold lots more insulin and the meter beams my blood sugar reading right to the pump! WOW we are really in the 21st century now.
