Simon Carter replied to Tabacblond's discussion 'Calculating factors and ratios'
"Zoe, you really should re-read my posts. I have often posted about my child's diabetes and my own, with no other reference. You are quite wrong. When appropriate, I suggest, and try to help with something that is free and that gives value."

Simon Carter replied to Tabacblond's discussion 'Calculating factors and ratios'
"Zoe, I think it's great that you monitor this forum, and help people out - and I hope you continue. But in this instance you don't know what you are talking about."

Simon Carter replied to Tabacblond's discussion 'Calculating factors and ratios'
"I agree - fats and protein kick in around 2-3 hours later and can make things more difficult to analyse. Generally you get told to test 3 hours after eating - this is because for most people, the insulin action has largely (95%) finished by then."

Simon Carter replied to Tabacblond's discussion 'Calculating factors and ratios'
"Hi Zoe, good to see you are watching in wait for me. I am telling people about something that can help. As you have not used it, how can you say this? You are also wrong. What I am describing DOES give suggestions for both basal and bolus doses.…"

Simon Carter replied to Tabacblond's discussion 'Calculating factors and ratios'
"The CDEs, Endos and Dieticians use rules of thumb (500/1500/1700 rule etc) - they provide a good general starting point but they must be refined by you."

Simon Carter replied to Siri's discussion 'How do I find and put to use a basal profile calculator?'
"Hi Siri, yes, you need to give it information so that it has a basis for simulating your BGLs. ManageBGL does the logging and bolus calculation that RapidCalc does, but it also predicts where your BGL is heading, and provides automated coaching that…"

Simon Carter replied to Siri's discussion 'How do I find and put to use a basal profile calculator?'
"Hi Brian - what we have is a BGL simulator, that shows the effect of your insulin and carbs on your bgl. You can either enter your known or estimated ratios for ISF and Carbs, or the system can help you work them out, so e.g. if in the morning you…"

Simon Carter replied to Siri's discussion 'How do I find and put to use a basal profile calculator?'
"Hi Siri, try ManageBGL.com - you can see the effect of basal insulins, bolus insulins and more."

Simon Carter replied to Craig's discussion 'Geeks! Could we build an open-source big data pancreas-brain?' in the group Geeks With Diabetes
"Guys, I have already built a lot of this, with live coaching (ManageBGL.com). It doesn't necessarily need to be aggregated - the key really is that it is personal, as everyone is so different."

Simon Carter replied to AfrezzaUser's discussion 'Afrezza An Ultra Rapid-Acting Insulin / Inhaled Insulin Onset 12 minutes!!!!'

Simon Carter replied to AfrezzaUser's discussion 'Afrezza An Ultra Rapid-Acting Insulin / Inhaled Insulin Onset 12 minutes!!!!'
"Thanks AfreezaUser, this sounds really exciting. If you had hypos every day pre-Afreeza, then clearly your ratios were wrong, so any conclusions drawn about Afreeza versus normal insulin in this regard are invalid. Coughing and residue left in the…"

I have had T1D for 24 years, and was diagnosed at age 16. I have a daughter also T1D, diagnosed at age 2.
Both of us tried insulin pumps for one year, and hated them. I have setup ManageBGL.com as a service for T1D's wanting the features of a pump, without the pump.
