Hi Sloane, I just wanted to stop by to see if you've done your Big Blue Test Today. Dont' forget that every time you log a Big Blue Test $5 is donated to diabetes charities that are providing life-saving supplies and services.

If you haven't yet, go log a Big Blue Test at http://www.bigbluetest.org/. If you have, do another!

hi sloane! well, i'm logan and i'm 18..haha i was diagnosed just 5 days after my 18th birthday...so that was a bit of a bummer. but i'm doing pretty good these days! better than i ever thought i'd be this soon afterward. still getting adjusted and stuff and hating the strict(ish) diet the hospital has me on...cause all i ever did was eat. it sucks going 18 years eating whenever i wanted, and now i just can't do that. my friends are accepting but they don't completely understand, and all we ever do is eat together. so it's rough hanging out with them sometimes, but i'm slowly learning. :)

Sloane, someone else here broke their insulin bottle and a person who works for Sanofi said to call them (they make Lantus) - here's the blog

I know Novolog is a diff manufacturer, but maybe they do the same thing.

Back to TuD! Viola-ness, diabetes, change and syringes...

Posted on March 30, 2012 at 9:45pm 2 Comments

TuDiabetes! I am back! I haven't posted a blog in months and months and I have missed TuD and everyone here a lot. Things have been pretty exciting lately. Last week, I performed in Indiana with my quartet for a taping of NPR's "From the Top". It was incredibly fun and the show will air on National Public Radio the week of April 16th. Anyways, on the topic of viola-ness and diabetes, I wrote something recently that I wanted to share. I've been on a pump vacation for a few weeks (back to MDI)…

I'm back! ..and asthma?

I haven't been been on TuD in a while (but I've been thinking about everyone!)!

This summer, I went away to two different chamber music/solo music camps- one that was many miles away in Chicago- for a total of five weeks. This was a huge experience for me! I had only ever gone away for one week and that was to diabetes camp, where everyone is absolutely prepared for anything diabetes related. I had great roommates, counselors and friends wherever I was, though, and other than a few… Continue

A Tale of Two (or lack of two) Insulins

Posted on April 21, 2011 at 10:58am 2 Comments

Sometimes things just won't go right.

Take yesterday for an example.

Two weeks ago, I started back on MDI and Lantus. It's been going very well, numbers coming down and feeling better since that month of bizarre pump issues. We were working with two bottles of Novolog and a Lantus pen until Tuesday. On Tuesday, after a day of blood sugars just not coming down, we figured out that the Novolog had just expired- no biggie, we ran out to the store to pick up the… Continue

Muscle atrophy?!

Posted on April 8, 2011 at 1:30pm 3 Comments

I've been sick. The past few weeks have been a blur of high blood sugars, phone calls with the Endocrinology clinic to make adjustments and sites that have repeatedly been falling out and hurting. As a result of these blood sugars, I've been tired and just plain sick.

Well, we went to the endocrinologist today and got some unexpected news- it's my sites that have been causing the blood sugars which have been causing the sickness. Other than scar tissue on my stomach (where I do a lot… Continue

Happiness and a CGM!

Posted on February 3, 2011 at 1:42pm 4 Comments

Lately, I've been feeling happy. Not that I haven't felt happy before, but it just feels like there's constantly a smile inside just waiting to burst. And I've been letting it.

If it were a few months ago, I would be feeling down and beating myself up about my latest A1C that was above 8, but instead I'm only focusing on what comes next- the bringing it down part. I would be upset about the changes that my Endo made that made my body freak out for a few weeks with nightly highs… Continue
