I tried it. My tip is : There is no diet - only change of habits. Try to eat healthy with low carbs & low GI , many vegetables, fibers & proteins. I advise to always take a vitamin / mineral supplement especially as diabetic. Do min 30 min walks...

Scared out of my mind. 12/25/08

This is gonna be my truth. I'm going to stop lying to myself and those who love me. I am taking myself away form my kids. As each day goes by and I eat things that are horrible for me that is one more nail in my coffin. No more I'll start the diet tomorrow. I'll enjoy this today cause tomorrow I won't eat it.

I have a addition to food. I am fat and nasty in my eyes. I know my husband would love some hott wife. I want to give him that. He deserves that. God that man is good to me. I just have to… Continue

oh, now I remember! Sonya, you will love Cherise, her husband was deployed when she found out she had diabetes! She is an administrator here too, so she's very connected. She's very nice. I'm sure you will want to add her as a friend!

hey, Sonya! I know there are some members here who have husbands in the military, I just can't find them at the moment....To have your husband deployed must be incredibly stressful, adding to your worries. Where is he, and when is he coming home?

I hope you had a great day.

Sonya,

The low carb diet is the safest diet for people with diabetes. It will lower blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure and most importantly it will stop the craziness that comes from blood sugar going up and down.

I put together a page that is full of research showing the healthfulness of the diet and also how UNhealthy the low fat diet turned out to be. It is at Studies Showing the Safety and Efficacy of the Low Carb diet..

I have been reading diabetes discussion boards for more than a decade now and most of the people I know who maintain good control eat lower carb diets. How low depends on their individual metabolisms.

Here's a link to inspiring stories I collected from people who lowered their blood sugars from very dangerous heights: The 5% Club: They Lowered their Blood Sugar and So Can You .

Once you get the carbs out of your system and get back to feeling more like a normal human being, you'll have a lot more forgiveness and compassion for yourself. Tragically, low fat/high carb diet doctors still prescribe (despite the lack of evidence that it helps people) makes people feel so much worse, gets people giving up, blaming themselves, and experiencing unnecessary health disasters.

You have beautiful kids and you are going to live to be a wonderful grandma. Hang int here and do draw on the support of other people with diabetes whenever it gets tough. We've ALL been there and we all help each other get back on track!
