Seeing diabetes as a challenge

Posted on December 24, 2011 at 11:01am 2 Comments

I believe that God has put everyone through a challenge for a reason. I want to win that challenge and be able to show other people the way, too. In my opinion, suffering in Christian Orthodox faith, has to do a lot with being ready to respond to any difficult situation, like DKA or a very low blood sugar. It's also about being responsible for yourself, as well as others. Ask for help, receive help, love and compassion and being able to give help, love and compassion. Our faith to a…

I need to calm down!

Posted on May 10, 2011 at 5:18pm 3 Comments

Unfortunately, things in Greece are so grim (almost black), that I only need to think about it and I get so frustrated! My Bg is through the roof again (no less than 250 mg/dl) all the time. I feel sad that no one in Greece ever thought about us! I am in search for a new endo (last one saw in me just a pocket full of money...sadly) and I don't even know if I am gonna be able to get my medication on time (cause, our insurance isn't guaranteed, money were stolen and spent away carelessly from… Continue

coming back

Posted on August 29, 2010 at 5:34pm 0 Comments

Just came back from my (short) vacations. I still encounter problems with the (damned) gastroparesis. Current medication has some side-effects on me. I am tired and I experience a feeling of emptiness, lack of meaning. At least, I don't feel frustrated, panicked or alone. In fact, I managed to make some new plans about my home and my work. Hopefully, they'll work out fine.

But, sometimes, I feel so exhausted, completely drained from any drop of energy that’s left in me. I don’t really know… Continue

My friend D

Posted on June 28, 2010 at 2:20am 1 Comment

My birthday was a day like all other days. Just came and passed. I am blessed to have friends from Canada, U.S. and Australia, who actually remembered that day, althought they live thousand miles away! I didn't have a cake (LOL) but we did have lots of ice cream (chocolate with caramel fudge) well, not too healthy, I admit, but I love it. These days I eat only soups and salads (adding daily just a small amount of carbs & protein) because I found that the only food my…

One "hot" diabetic

Posted on June 18, 2010 at 12:26pm 3 Comments

Althought parts of western Europe (France) are ravaged by summer floods and heavy rain, here in Greece we experience our first heatwave for the summer. The temperature is almost 40 degrees Celcious, under shade! I feel so hot. I am meltin' like a chocolate cream sundae, left in the sun. The worst thing about it is that I have to keep the insulin in the butter compartment on my fridge, along with meter and sticks, because nothin' works under those conditions. The pharma company says "keep it… Continue

your christmas eve comment prompted me to share this christmas letter that i found and shared with some of my friends this year you may have seen it before god bless! amy
Letter Written by Fra Giovanni

I am your friend and my love for you goes deep. There is nothing I can give you which you have not got, but there is much, very much, that, while I cannot give it, you can take.

No heaven can come to us unless our hearts find rest in today. Take heaven!

No peace lies in the future which is not hidden in this present little instant. Take peace!

The gloom of the world is but a shadow. Behind it, yet within our reach is joy. There is radiance and glory in the darkness could we but see - and to see we have only to look. I beseech you to look!

Life is so generous a giver, but we, judging its gifts by the covering, cast them away as ugly, or heavy or hard. Remove the covering and you will find beneath it a living splendor, woven of love, by wisdom, with power.

Welcome it, grasp it, touch the angel's hand that brings it to you. Everything we call a trial, a sorrow, or a duty, believe me, that angel's hand is there, the gift is there, and the wonder of an overshadowing presence. Our joys, too, be not content with them as joys. They, too, conceal diviner gifts.

Life is so full of meaning and purpose, so full of beauty - beneath its covering - that you will find earth but cloaks your heaven.

Courage, then, to claim it, that is all. But courage you have, and the knowledge that we are all pilgrims together, wending through unknown country, home.

And so, at this time, I greet you. Not quite as the world sends greetings, but with profound esteem and with the prayer that for you now and forever, the day breaks, and the shadows flee away.

This letter was written by Fra Giovanni Giocondo to his friend, Countess Allagia Aldobrandeschi on Christmas Eve, 1513. Born in Venice, Giocondo would become a priest, a scholar, an architect and a teacher. He was indeed a true 'renaissance man.'

Hi Lena Z. Just had to stop by and wish you a belated Happy Birthday! I am sorry that you are not feeling well. I am having the same problems and getting a gastric emptying test next week to see if I have it too. I hope that you are feeling better soon. You are such a tiny thing I hope you aren't losing any weight. Take good care of yourself. Are you getting decent medical care for it, I hope so. Feel Better

Hi Lena, just stopping by to see how you are doing. How are things? Still too hot for you, I bet. I have been reading this site a lot so that I can find out ways to improve my BS control and diet and it is finally working. Took me long time because there is so much stuff in here, it's amazing! Hope you are well. Let me know what's up if you have time.
