Lately I have been hungry constantly .. not sure why. I asked my CDE about it yesterday and she suggested I up my protein intake. I was thinking a good snack to have would be some kind of protein bar. Can anyone suggest one that takes pretty good?...

I actually owned the MM cgm before switching to the Dexcom. I got the MM around summer of 2007 and was not happy with its results & found it painful too so I gave up on it (and on cgms I thought). Then I heard about the Dexcom around fall of last ...

I believe the transmitter does need to be replaced. I'm not 100% sure but I think the replacement costs less than original but I guess a rep can confirm that for you. (Or someone on here who has been through it). I also believe the life span of tr...

I can't offer any experience with those companies but I'm actually going through the same thing myself. Had the CGMS covered with no problems at all with UHC and will be switching to Empire BCBS starting Oct. 29th. I'm nervous that they won't cove...

I purchased the kit once and tried the 2 tests it came with at 2 different times. The only thing I didn't do (foolishly) was use it at a time when I could compare to a lab result. The first test result was 7.4 and 2 weeks later my a1c at the endo ...

About Me

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on christmas eve of 1981 ... I was only 5 years old. My father was type 1 so my parents recognized the symptoms immediately and fortunately that was to my benefit since they caught it early. After being on MDIs for 25 years and my current endo mentioning how great the pump is for a few years, I finally decided to take the plunge in January of '07. It created a whole new outlook on my diabetes management and I haven't looked back since!! After 17 months of hard, hard work, I finally got my a1c to 6.4 =) I could seriously kick myself for not going on the pump sooner!! I try not to dwell on that aspect and instead just LOVE my minimed and what it does for me!
I have an identical twin sister who has provided the greatest nephew and niece I could ever ask for :) I've been married for 5 years to a wonderful guy who is also an identical twin ... and no my sister is not married to his brother ha ha. My father passed away from diabetes complications 5 years ago and not a day goes by that my heart doesn't ache and I don't think of him.
I work for an investment bank in the Finance area .. something I've been doing for 10 years. It's good $$ and I enjoy it but sometimes the hours are just too much. But I give my all to everything I do and that is no different.
I love shopping, new technology devices, spring and fall weather, my 2 fuzzy ferrets, relaxing or even better sleeping, cute and mushy emails, a good movie, texting, laughter.

Not diabetes related - 9/11, 7 years later

Part of my commute to work every day is going through the WTC site to get to the path train. Being a creature of habit, I went that way today when I should have taken an alternate route. I rode the subway next to a couple of people who were on their way to the memorial service .. one had lost a brother, the other a sister. As I listened to each of them tell the story of the loved one they had lost 7 years ago, I stood there biting my lip, taking a lot of effort not to cry for them. To hear how t… Continue

Lifetime Achievement

For those of you who already know about this, I apologize if it is repetitive. I went to see my endocrinologist 2 weeks ago for my usual 3 month exam. But it was different than any other appointment I've had in the past 26+ years ... my a1c was 6.4 ... the lowest it has been probably since I'm diagnosed (although I can't say that with 100% certainty). 6.4. 6.4. That is all I can keep saying in my head. I can honestly say that I have never worked this hard on anything my entire life, as I have be… Continue

It's wonderful that he made it to your wedding, and I know it must have meant a lot ot him too.

I've been setting new goals for myself in my diabetes. I hope I can achieve the kind of results with my a1c you have recently. TuDiabetes is great too, and helps with motivation and support and with meeting with people like you. Thanks for sharing.
