When were you told a cure is coming?

I often hear people sharing that when they were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, their doctors sometimes (often) told them a rather specific time-frame for a cure - in the next 5 years, in the next 10…Continue

Hi everyone,

I am a type 1 diabetic, have been for 5 years now, ever since I was diagnosed upon graduating high school at 18 years of age. I would say that is far from the ideal age of getting a chronic disease, but then again, is there such a thing as a preferred age for getting diabetes? I would think not.

I would not have imagined that I would actually get to do something useful with my disease, but lately I have been doing just that. I work as an associate editor for the Juvenile Diabetes Cure Alliance, where I write for the organization's blog, I interview members of the diabetes community, and do my part in promoting a cure. It is an ambitious project, but it gives me hope, and I hope to share with everyone why I think the JDCA is something different and can make a difference.

What does a diabetes cure mean for you?

Posted on April 4, 2012 at 1:53pm 0 Comments

Hi everyone,

Wanted to share three accounts of what a cure for diabetes will mean from members of the JDCA team - myself included (we all have type 1): http://jdca2025.wordpress.com/2012/04/04/what-does-a-diabates-cure-mean-to-you/

So the question is - what will it mean to you? How differently will you live your life without type 1 diabetes? We'll get there - hopefully…

Yep, that's what my 18 year old mind believed when I was first diagnosed with type 1....I go into detail about it on my blog post at the JDCA: http://jdca2025.wordpress.com/2012/03/23/too-healthy-to-get-diabates/

But I was wondering - anyone else really shocked and found it hard to swallow when you were told you have diabetes? I mean, obviously everyone is surprised when they are told…

The JDRF, ADA, DRIF, Joslin - How much and where is each foundation spending?

Hi everyone,

Making sure that you all got a chance to look at our newest report over at the JDCA, which examines how the four major non-profits: The JDRF, ADA, DRIF, Joslin spent the donation money they received for 2011. (Though the statistics for the ADA are mostly from 2010 since they are yet to release their info for this year)

A blog on our Review…

Oh interesting! I'm in a folk dance group, and we do dances from Bulgaria and the other countries in that region. I don't know how much you've listened to your traditional music, but it's WONDERFUL! Beautiful harmonies and unusual
rhythms, and a way of using the voice that is very different from Western European folk singing. I wish I could understand the words, but just hearing the music and moving to it is really enough! :-) And I've seen pictures of the costumes the men and women wear, and they are beautiful and colorful -- the women of East Europe have a tradition of fine needlework that I was lucky enough to have passed down from my grandmother to my mother to me. :-) I hope you enjoy your heritage, because it is priceless! :-)

hey there! i have a question. why dont NGOs like JDCA & JDRF all seeking a cure for type 1 diabetes unite? i mean otherwise it wastes time if each organization is going through its own process of finding a cure, (so long as theyre all non profit)?
