Suzanne why don't you call your doc and discuss it. If you are really worried about the high sugars and your doc feels like youreally do need the prednisone then why don't you see if you can use a sliding scale insulin during the treatment?

That is one of the side effects of steroids. Even those diabetics that do not take insulin may have to use a sliding scale during steroid therapy. Monitior your sugars and if it gets too high call you Dr. If you are on a dose pack the dose should ...

I'm over in Enid. I grew up in western Montana, and got statined ehre for pilot training. I've been here since! I stayed as an instructor pilot and now i've been here in 'limbo' trying to work a different assignment...

Hi Suzanne,

I read your comment on my string about wierd cravings. I have been on low carb, specifically Atkins induction since I was diagnosed on May 9, 2009. I have a good friend who has been Type 1 for over 50 years and has worked extensively with diabetics of both type. He hates nutritionsts, not personally, but what they are teaching. He put me on low carb and in less than 10 days, took my BS from 267 to 90 and my last A1C was 6.5 after 2 months. My heartfelt and honest suggestion...IGNORE the nutritionists and go low carb. I irritate them but they cannot argue when I pull my blood tests. I effectively silence them.
