Hello Tania. I just read your email about feeling quilty. You are not alone, at times I feel the same way, but I try my best to stay positive for the whole family. My daughter (Olivia) is three years old and was dx on 6/12/2007 and I also have a seven year old daughter (Gwen) whose had her fair share of "I hate how it has to be this way" moments. We decided (my husband and I) to get Gwen involved in an afterschool activity (soccer) so she would be in the "spotlight" a couple of days a week. It's also great for Olivia to cheer her on and that makes Gwen feel really good and in turn she tries her best to help out with Olivia's care. My husband is also good at taking both girls to our camp to spend the night two nights a month which the girls look forward too and I like the much needed break. Just little things like this helps break up the routine - even though we still have to follow a pretty strict schedule, it does make it a little easier. Maybe talk to your son and ask him his ideas for your daughter to help out with his diabetes. Definitly get out of the house!! Do things as a family and don't let this disease hold you back. This is a great site for questions and support. Feel free to contact me any time.

Nice to meet you. My brother lives in Bloomfield. We are in the city. It’s very overwhelming in the beginning…. If it’s not then something’s wrong. You get used to it. Let us know if you need anything.

Hi Tania,
Welcome to the group! My daughter was diagnosed on July 12, 2007. I was pregnant at the time with my son, who is now 13 months old. I had similar guilt about whether I was paying enough attention to the baby, but this disease can be all-consuming, especially during the first year after diagnosis. Chances are, from your daughter's perspective, she doesn't feel neglected at all. I say do what you can to get by day by day and things will eventually fall into place. Do you have someone who can watch your son for an hour or so while you spend one-on-one time with your daugther? Even if it is just once a week, it will help ease your guilt and make her feel special too.

I hope you're able to find the support you need through this website. It is a great resource!

Jonna
