I see you have joined the NW diabetic group! I grew up in Portland myself, but am now in Washington State. I know some are meeting up tomorrow at the Portland Diabetes Expo. As for the blogs, definitely check out http://sixuntilme.com/ if you haven't already. I don't blog much on diabetes, but I do blog about several items on your "reasons to take care of yourself" list I read on your blog: I have four babies of my own (one pre-diagnosis, one post, and two by adoption), I travel the world (going back to China this summer), and am healthy and love to work out. Glad to read you are getting on track. You have found a safe place of support and encouragement here!

I found the book Know Your Numbers, Outlive Your Diabetes was a really useful read, because it helped me focus on starting with the most important thing, instead of trying to get everything right at the same time. It also made me exercise more, which is a great way of controlling bgs.

Erin, if you've been running high a bit watch out for feeling low when your bgs get closer to a normal range. This has happened to me and several friends, it's very confusing. Don't try to overdo things at first. Let me know if I can help.
