My A1C Results are good because..

* I don't recommend you do any of these things unless you get clearance from your doctor AND health providers together as a team.

1- I test, test, and test all the time! Even when I feel fine.

2- Understand what carbohydrates, calories, and fats are. See a certified or professional dietitian AND intuitionalist. The more you understand how your body handles the foods you eat, and how long it takes your body to break down those foods and turn them into sugars, the better your management of your diabetes will be.

3- I write down foods and portion sizes I eat, how much insulin I give myself, and the blood glucose test results from soon after to hours after. From this data I have a good assumption of how much insulin to deliver when it comes time to eat.

4- I don't follow a schedule. (you better know what your doing! and ill remind you to follow your dr's orders.) This was easier to do with a pump. I simply set a bolus when I eat something. I rarely, but sometimes decrease or increase my Basal if I am having a high stress or very active day.

I hoped this helped.. it's all things you have probably heard before. Most of all I can tell you is realize how foods effect your body. Also, how some foods effect other foods. For example, if you have a big fatty meal, your insulin may take longer to take effect. Happy and healthy living everyone!

Hi Terence, I want to use your "Let's Go Shopping" photo to accompany a post on DiabetesMine.com. I am giving you credit, of course!

Please let me know in case you have any issues with that. I'm at amy@diabetesmine.com

All the best,

Hi Terence,
I got your message. The gift certificates were not purchased but given to us by Overstock Drugstore to give as prizes, so we do have them in hand.

Please confirm to me if you would like to donate yours to iPump, as I understood from your message.

Thanks for such a kind gesture and for your continued support!!

My A1c control was mainly due to my job as an Air Traffic Controller. I had to show my A1c test every 3 months for 2 years, and each had to be 6.0 or below- just to be hired! Then while I was working the job, I had to prove my blood glucose results almost hourly. I dont log much nowadays since I have quit. I only log foods that i have not logged before and the insulin dosages.. I have been very relaxed about my logging.. my most recent A1c was 6.8! So I would say logging, as time consumming as it is, has its advantages.. if you want to consistantly log your diabetic life!

Awesome photos Terence.

Also it was good to read your secret to good control!! I follow a similar one, but I am much less disciplined about logging what I do. It does make all the difference! I'm hoping for an A1c on your level this year!

So glad that you are here!!
