Back from Diabetes Camp!

Got back from Diabetes camp with Mister yesterday - it was an awesome experience!Mister has gotten so much better at playing with kids his own age and he was able to spend a good chunk of the time engaged in group play. That, plus the sleep-schedule reset, made the whole trip worth it.Being able to connect with all the families that are also struggling with diabetes and really take an active role in supporting them made the trip so much more than merely 'worth it.'Pictures will follow.See More

Glucagon Pen Progress!

Posted on June 4, 2013 at 5:14pm 3 Comments

Epi-pens are all the rage for treating allergic shock reactions for bee stings and dietary concerns.

But, there's nothing so simple for treating a low blood sugar that leaves someone unresponsive and unable to consume sugar. Our only option at that point is an injection of Glucagon - an expensive drug that has to be mixed before it can be injected. Many schools will refuse to administer it due to the complexity of the process! (some also claim the risks of injection are too high, but…

Dean Kamen - Making Diabetes Smaller

Posted on May 10, 2013 at 2:12pm 3 Comments

A recent chat discussion about the advancement of diabetes management technology lead to me posting about Dean Kamen.

Who? Well, the inventor of the Segway.

But! Before you roll your eyes and walk away, there's more to him than that. A lot more.

He's the guy behind DEKA Research - an organization that does SCIENCE and in a big way.

How does that relate to PWD?

Well, in his early days Dean Kamen was responsible for the technology that shrunk glucometers from…

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Luv those little horns Adrian ;p
Hello! Thank you for having me as a friend!!!
Vancouver....so far away, but it feels like you're right here! That's one of the appeals of tu.diabetes. I'm southwestern Ontario...and originally from Québec. I'm a wife of 33 years (hubby is also diabetic), mom to two grown children (one 28, the other 26), a grandma to 3 lovable little boys, a teacher, and before that an illustrator (still do some) and graphic designer....I speak French fluently, I read, history fascinates me, I paint, ski (do you ski?), ride my bike....did I mention "read"? I'm an eclectic music lover, an animal lover...the ocean...ah the ocean...it speaks to me! Oh...and I have diabetes (and a few other things).
Tell me a bit about yourself!
Keep in touch, ok?
