Dieting on a pump

Kinda unusual, right? Well, I became a T1 at the ripe old age of 48, and went on the pump about 8 months later. I have been overweight for quite some time, but I found a diet that works for me, and I…Continue

I've been out of the loop here for about a mo. Just read your message. I am a bit reactive to latex but only in an itching way. I have Eczema and when you have that anything causes your hands to itch so the gloves do the same and some types of tape. The Novalog just causes my BP to spike really high every time I try it. Like other diabetics, I have some BP problems anyway but that insulin is the only one that does it like that. I just use Humalog and that fixes the problem.
Thanks...Karla

I'm glad to hear you are home and got thru your emergency. I understand as I tend to have reactions to lot's of meds thru my life. I mostly get reverse reactions but to Novalog, I get very high blood pressure. Also, we do not know if it was the Novalog but I recently had an episode where I woke up and could not swallow for about an hour and my BP was stroke high. I stopped the Novalog and all has gone away so I wonder if the swallow episode was the insulin also. I know the BP is as it's done that 4 seperate times I've tried it. I am so sorry you had to go thru such an awful thing. I hope you feel well soon.

By the way, there is no better control than pumping. I never had any control until my pump due to other health issues. It has changed everything. You are on the right track and I hope you get your allergy issues resolved so you can have a pump. Also, if your doctor isn't helping you then make a change in doctors. I went 6 yrs after DX without control that was lasting. It does lot's of damage to your body. Each person is different but be safe and go for a pump as soon as you resolve the allergy issue.

Hi, I read your pump question and wanted to ask about your insulin allergy. I ask because I've discovered I can't take Novalog. I started pumping in July and use Humalog but from before my pump thru recently, I've tried Novalog 4 times and it spikes my BP very high every single time I go on it. Did you say you had anaphylaxsis from insulin? That's really scary if I read that right. Also, there are 3 insulins you can use in a pump. Novalog, Humalog, and Apidra. They are all different chemicals so maybe you can use one. I'd think you need to get an Endo and an Allergist talking together to help you.
