"It is quite an interesting array of responses that people have posted to this article, and how easily the last sentence dissatisfied some of the group here. I've managed Type 1 for 36years & I would never want someone to tell me what to do…"

TiaLuna1217 replied to Emily Coles's discussion 'Great New Healthy Habits Program for People with Type 2 Diabetes'
"Seems like the small steps emphasis is missing the basic step: something small every day. I guess I'm a literalist. TODAY, I will work (1) thing differently. TODAY I will commit to do this one thing each day of the week. TODAY is the only day…"

I have lived with Type 1 DM for 35+ years. I have 2 brothers, and our father who also live with Type 1. One brother is on a pump, the rest of us manage with 2 types of insulin and multiple daily injections.

I have learned a lot about health through becoming a yoga teacher. I went back to school and got certified in Personal Training as well as Wellness Coach.

Where I live there are many people managing a variety of health challenges that relate to food issues. My own training and my own evolving health have really focused on the impact of foods in the body.

My diet has changed dramatically in the past 18mos, and my Endocrinologist had nothing to do with it. I've cut my short acting insulin almost in half, and my bolus by 4-6 units a day.

I work with pre-Diabetics who are not yet on the medications treadmill using basic yoga principles to create a new relationship with food.

As I move closer to menopause, I am sure that my diet will change even more. But I see that there remains a great gap for many people around food and stress. This connection is very real, and has direct connections to how both impact glucose management.

I see health as a life long journey, it's not an occasional thing to consider, nor is it a hassle because I have to do all of this stuff differently now. The body is wise, and it kindly communicates to us. I appreciate that I have a new take on life, and that I can live a fully rich life with Diabetes. I would wish the same for everyone else.

Welcome to the family!! On this forum you will learn so much. Most of what you will learn is that you are not alone. Everyone here is supportive and will provide answers to your questions. Search the site for answers. Read the discussions and blogs for information. There are videos to help you understand diabetes and its treatment. Most of all there is family to talk to and vent to, if needed.
