Tiera, like mentioned by the other members that basically means your dosage is off. We can't help you with that, you should see a doctor or go to an educational class to get you set on the right ratio.

Kelly, I think your summary of carb "terms" is reasonable. It helps to clarify the confusion between those who used the "exchange system" in the past and those of us who count individual carb grams to decide dosing. I don't think your summary is...

It does in a very practical way. It is only $11 on Amazon. You should be able to find it at any bookstore. It is a very different way of learning about the "real" challenges.

I bought it last fall, so I've gone back to it twice since I bought it just to see how my numbers fit his suggestions. I've pumped for nearly a decade, but I was really glad to have new insight. It made me realize that I've moved from version to v...

Jim has a good point, Tiera. When I was on too high a basal rate I went low on a regular basis shortly before I was due for a meal. When I took too much bolus I was low after eating as the food couldn't keep up with the insulin I'd injected, so th...

Hey Stephen - I've seen that book. I'm wondering if covers a lot of pump stuff or just diabetes in general?

When it comes down to it, I definitely agree that counting grams is the best way - at least for me. Before, I would've never gotten as precise (ie. 1 unit of insulin covers 11 grams of carbs for me).

Best book from my experience, you need to look at everything to determine what is happening. Most lows on the pump when I have not been eating are due to activity or the basal being to high. The best book I know of if you really want to learn abo...

I know you are recently diagnosed this year so I understand your confused state (by the way it sounds like your honeymoon is over). What you need is a CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator) to get you on track. An educator can give you info regarding y...

Melissa, I was wondering if the Pumping Insulin book is one that you refer to often or do you feel like you have it down since you have been pumping for such a long time? I was diagnosed as type 1 last year and started pumping in Augsust of thsi ...

I absolutely agree with what everyone else has said, Tiera about your insulin doses being too high if you are experiencing frequent lows. You don't say if this has been recently, where before you were managing well? One thing I thought of just to ...

My first pump did that as well (if I remember correctly) back in 2000. I moved from exchanges to "carb servings" (same thing as a carb unit) and then to carb counting when smart pumps became the industry norm. I just wanted Mark to know that we've...

Not sure that putting words in ALL CAPS really helps clarify the situation. People are taught many different methods of counting carbs (especially those of us who started on the exchange system way back when). A person with type 2 who is not on ...

Wow It's Been A Month. !!!!!

Hi everybody today is October 6, 2009 and it has been one month since I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. It wasnt as stressful as I thought it was going to be. I just had to get over the soreness of the finger and arm pricks. I have went through 100's of lancets, 100's of syringes, 100's of test strips, about 2-3 bottles of humalog and about 2 bottles of lantus. But im more aware of my condition now with countless doctor visit's and hours and hours on the web. I am also not afraid to tell peo… Continue

OH! I totally wish they had purple too, it's my FAVORITE! i need to order my case. I love my pump so far, although it is hard to get used to. It makes me feel like i am in the hospital all the time. The tubing, the alcohol wipes...but it will get better i'm sure. Let me know when you start pumping and how you are doing!!
