Hi all,

I have bee diagnosed with Type 1 in November 2001 after a long journey of clear symptoms, but neither me or my family nor a specialist doctor I went to because of my dry mouth, ever thought about diabetes. I actually had no glue of what diabetes was back then. When I finally got diagnosed by my gp, I was immediately transferred to the hospital where i spent one week getting introduced to insulin etc and another week of going there for a course of how to manage my diabetes. After that and for the first years I mainly lived with it without having contact with other people with type 1. However, I never tried to hide my diabetes and so far it, luckily, has not prevented me from doing anything. After some years and well into my studies of economics I eventually joined a group of other people with type 1 and also focused in my studies of economics on the economic impact of diabetes especially in developing countries and I took the decision to work in the field of diabetes if possible.
After I finished my Masters program I moved from Germany to Brussels to work as a health economist for IDF. During the recent World Diabetes Congress in Dubai I met Manny of the Diabetes Hands Foundation where I first heard about TuDiabetes.

Welcome to the family! On this forum you will learn so much. Most of all you will learn that you are not alone. Everyone here is supportive and will provide answers to your questions. Search the site for answers. Read the discussions and blogs for information. There are videos to help you understand diabetes and its treatment. Most of all there is family to talk to and even to vent to, if needed. Welcome home.
