No energy when sugars are normal

Hey there, It seems to me that every time my sugars are in the normal range- I have no energy. I just could lay down and fall asleep. I'm not sure if this is because my body may be more accustomed to higher sugars or if it's a Vitamin deficiency or what. Any ideas? TSee More

Limited Sites

Hi there everybody, I've had omnipod for a little over a year now. And I can only wear the pump around the sides of my abdomen- does anyone else have this problem? I'm worried about scarring and what not.I'm rather lean and muscular- every time i wear the pod on one of the other sites such as my arms, the site just bruises, bleeds, and hurts a ton. I sometimes wear it on the side of my butt, however I usually don't get good absorption there. I saw a omnipod rep once and she examined my body and…See More

Hi Tom,

After almost a month trial on Apidra we jointly decided with our endo to switch from Humalog. My daughter's CGM and Blood Stick information showed significant improvement over the trial. In addition to Apridra, we are trying to give her the meal bolus 15 to 30 minutes before the meal especially breakfast (breakfast is her biggest spike).

Hi Tom, thanks for the friend invite. I did not stick with Apidra... I quickly went back to Novolog. My blood sugars will all over the place with Apidra. In fairness, I didn't give it time to "re-learn" all of my basal rates, carb factors, and so forth on Apidra, but I found myself -- more than once -- stuck with an empty reservoir.

Apidra is written to only be used in a pump for two, not three, days, and like you saw on that earlier post, it is extremely sensitive to heat. So, in order to avoid running into the third day (and wasting insulin), I'd fill my pump reservoir with 2-days supply, and after running 50% of the time with a "Low Reservoir" warning, I grew numb to it. Since I couldn't carry an unrefrigerated vial with me, I once found myself sitting in a parking lot topping-off a near-empty Apidra reservoir with Novolog. Obviously not advisable, but it's what I had to do to have enough insulin through the day.

Needless to say, there were too many hassles with it, so I went back to Novolog. My doctor didn't think I'd see much improvement from it anyway.

I have gone low, but I have a Dexcom and I can see if I am trending down and I will have a snack or a tab.

It depends how they are. Usually if it happens it is towards the end of the workout anyway, so I have them eat a glucose tab and finish with some passive stretching or easy arm exercises. Does that help? It is hard to say what I do because every situation is different. My type twos are not on insulin generally, so they don't get the lows.

I actually have a BS in athletic training and a NASM cert in pt. I have been training for 12 years and specialize in training people with health issues : ). It is pretty ironic that I have type 1, because I train a lot of people with type 2 and a few with type 1!

Hi Tom, I saw your comment that the pod is not going well. Let me know if you have any questions. I'm no pro, but I'd be happy to help in any way I can. Also, I see that we are in the same neck of the woods and am guessing that our pod reps are the same. I've had great luck with Mary (the CDE/trainer in the area). I could get you her contact info if you want a "pro" to chat with. Hang in there!

Hi there fellow Marylander! Yes, I met with the Omnipod trainer last Monday and have to meet with her again next Tuesday to officially start with insulin (I'm not really sure why I have to meet with her again, I think I could handle changing my initial rates on my own or this could be handled over a phone call but I digress...). Anyways, if you have any other questions about the pod feel free to ask!
