Hold Tight or Open Up?

Another bit of wisdom from Oswald Chambers gave me choices to think about last week. He centered his thoughts on the example of David's decision not to drink the water that had been brought to him by men who risked their lives to get it. David, instead poured the water out while talking to God, expressing his thankfulness to God for giving him such men who would risk their very lives for him. The fact of his extreme thirst was not enough to make him take the blessing of the water and own it for… Continue

Devotion - To What?

Posted on July 2, 2008 at 5:17pm 0 Comments

This morning, the insights of Oswald Chambers meant a lot to me. He was discussing the words of Jesus in Luke 14:

"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple."

This saying of Christ has always been a mystery to me. Why would he want us to "hate"? It sounds like fanaticism on the surface.

What Chambers said though seemed to get at the root of… Continue

Summer Mornings

I was blessed this Sunday morning by spending time on the seat of my bike, out in the Cathedral of my Creator's own Construction. The privilege of seeing his creatures, in their element, as if there were no human civilization for a 100 square miles has filled me up with praise, and truly humbled me in his presence. I am so glad to have lost an hour of sleep to experience these moments! God, You Are Good!…

Colorado Winter Spring

Posted on February 24, 2008 at 3:25pm 0 Comments

Well it was a fine spring day in winter today. My wife and I jumped on our tandem bike and hit the trails for an hour after church this noon. It was sunny, nearly 60 degrees, and absolutely windless. The wind so often accompanies our warm winter days here along the Front Range, but this one was a beauty. Hopefully, the first of many more to come!

My daughter's at Colorado State in Fort Collins. Yes, the Bolder Boulder is sort of an annual event with us. Hope to continue doing it as long as possible. I used to shy away from the humongous (old Texas word there) crowds, but now I crave the festivity, especially the Memorial Day tributes. For Boulder, it's pretty amazingly honoring to the military personnel and veterans who so richly deserve to be appreciated.

Wondering if you have ran the Boulder Boulder race yet? It's always fun for everyone. Great places to cycle in your area. Bet you didn't need a snow shovel in Plano! J

Hi Tom,
I lived in Colorado all my life until my ailing parents' calling to Texas brought me here. I was a police officer and lived in Boulder for 28 yrs. and born and raised in Salida. Nice seeing you on here. J

Thanks for the message back Tom. We came from Texas too! Well I'm from Boulder, but my husband is from Waco, and we had been living there for almost 10 years and just moved back last year! Where did you guys live in Texas? What church do you go to? We go to Foothills in Arvada - we love it. How do you like Boulder Endo's new office? I went to get my A1C done a few weeks ago and rolled up my sleeve to get my blood drawn and they have a new machine that only needs a small sample-so they just pricked my finger to get my a1c? So strange!
