Hello! How's it going Val...any questions? Take a look at some of the other groups when you get a chance!

I am part of the Welcome Committee and was just checking in on you to make sure you are aware of all that TuDiabetes has to offer. We would love to hear from you so here is a helpful link where you can read about all the things you can do in the community.

HI yes I am finally back. I do the kidney check twice a year so they are doing as good as expected. I have been in first stage kidney disease since 1989.
Thank goodness for really good drugs. So far so good. Yes you have helped. As far as sites - still the same some are great some are not. still working on the dual bolus' at meals. This is just a whole new concept. I think the heat is effecting more than the kidneys on the swelling. A little cooler this last week and no swelling. How is the lifting going? I'm trying to watch the olympics and type. Have a good week.

I know the sure-t is 6mm and my old silhouette box says 13mm. They are really small but they are 90 degree angle - they just go right in and you never feel them! Much more comfortable for me because I am pretty lean on the fat and the silhouettes started giving me a bit of infection (a little white pus and bump at the site).

I forgot about that! It is a bit but I put them in the behind - not sure how much your suit covers back there but it's been easy hiding behind a regular bathing suit... Maybe you could switch between the two sets and just use one for your competitions. Good luck! Keep in touch!

Hi Val. Since your discussion was closed about the Sils, I figured I would leave you a message. I had trouble with the Sils and especially the inserter (1 pretty bad episode). I was also getting some infections with them (cannula material doesn't agree well with me) so I switched to the Sure-T and have had terrific luck! They are so easy to insert and you don't even feel it. You have more of a choice as to where to put them. Only thing - you need to tape them - being thin I have sometimes had them pop out if not taped during exercise. Good luck!

Hi, when are National's? What have you been doing lately. Haven't heard anything from you. This summer has been really long. I'm not used to being outside all day 5 days a week. Do you ever have trouble with swelling in your legs. My doc said is was my way of getting rid of the sweat instead of sweating. Just working its way down. At least it is gone by morning. I've always swelled when at meetings and sitting most of the day, but never while being on my feet walking. Do you ever have trouble sleeping? How is the omni pod working. What do you do with the pump while you are competing? I am just full of questions.

I work on the Naperville / Aurora border. It's a 2 mile walk from the Rt 59 station to work. I catch a bus from the station most of the time..... good excercise. In the mean time I'll be dreaming about those River Forest homes.......lol. Jimmy Hoffa may be part of somebody's foundation there. ;)

About Me...

I am a type 1, diagnosed in May of 1977. That's not the first thing people know about me though! I'm high energy, physically fit (to the extreme), active and love life! I have had a victrectomy (sp?) to correct retinopathy in my right eye. Still have leaks in my left... I have very slight kidney failure and with all that, compete in Figure Bodybuilding. I recently qualified for National level competition! I compete, of course, naturally (no steroids! That's cheating if you ask me!). Although, I cannot compete in one of the natural federations because I take insulin. Not even with a doctor's letter of medical necessity.

I've been pumping for 8 years. I recently switched from a Minimed Paradigm to the OmniPod system. I'm now switching back. With my active lifestyle (I'm more of a human perpetual motion machine, really), I can't afford the unreliability the OmniPod system presented once I went live.

There's probably much more to say, but at the moment my hubby and I are on our way out to see Poison (Bret Michaels, woo hoo!). I'll update when I think of more to say!
